** A/N: Hey hey :3 I'm sure you've noticed that I don't like posting chapters that are only two pages long, which is why I'll somtimes post two chapters at once. But, unfortunately, until I start writing this again (this has all been prewritten), those short chapters might have to suffice. If I can get my butt into writing gear, you won't have anything to worry about, Just wanted to let you guys know :3 Thanks for reading and being awesome! :D I love you all <3

Ariel

When I woke up, I didn’t get straight out of bed like I usually did. I layed there with my eyes shut, just listening and feeling my surroundings. I never paid attention to the birds outside before, and I could hear faint voices and cars in the distance, even dogs if I listened long enough. My blankets felt softer than I ever remembered, and my bed felt as if it had been molded for me, my shape fitting perfectly within its comfort. I took a deep breath, inhaling through my nose. So many smells that I never seemed to notice were lingering in the air. My dad’s daily cup of coffee was probably the strongest, although my scent was definitely a close second. I don’t know how I knew my own scent, since I was never able to smell it before, but I didn’t second guess my instincts…I never knew I smelled like apples, raspberries and vanilla… I pushed the thought aside, smelling more. I could smell my mom’s paint and clay within her studio, although they were rather stale. My house smelled like cinnamon, new books and fabric softener, with a hint of spruce since I had decorated for Christmas yesterday.

My eyes flew open at the memory, suddenly remembering brunch and Dimitri and my upcoming death sentence. I sighed, reluctantly stepping out of bed to stretch. I concentrated on my dad for a moment, glad when I didn’t get a headache or nose bleed. I figured it was because he was in close proximity, but decided to take in what his presence felt like. I wondered if all humans had contained energy like this. It was like if I closed my eyes, I would be able to see his energy coursing through his body, making him a faceless entity with a total lack of detail. It was nothing like the wolves energy, which reminded me of a sphere hidden within their rib cage. My dad’s presence reminded me of an office cubicle, stuffed with papers and work, with little personal or identifiable effects. I was a little disappointed, but shrugged as I went through my closet and drawers for something to wear.

I wore a burgundy Aeropostale v-neck t-shirt, with a white camisole underneath, and dark denim skinny jeans. I put on my EMU King Cross boots, slipped on my bracelet and vervain ring, grabbed my jackets, scarf and clutch purse, and headed to the bathroom. I added waves to my hair and did my make-up before slipping on my hoodies and scarf. I felt like I was walking too fast to be considered human, so I took thoughtful steps down the stairs. My dad was fumbling around in the kitchen, and I quickly grabbed my thermos before he could ask questions. “You ready?” He asked with a smile, gesturing toward the door. I nodded, faking a smile as best as I could. I sighed once he was out of ear shot, and I reluctantly sat in the passenger’s seat. We made it to the local diner, Aesop’s Tables,  by 11:10 AM, and we were seated right away, since the place was virtually empty.

I had to admit, I was feeling the effects of my elixir, with my heightened senses and my lack of hunger, and it began to worry me. I ordered a chicken wrap with lettuce, tomato and honey mustard (one of my favorite meals), with a small side of waffle fries, and a Coke, which I didn’t plan on drinking. My dad ordered New England clam chowder soup, with a small turkey club sandwich. I wanted to delay the inevitable as much as possible, so I made small chit chat until our food came, my dad of course ordering another coffee as his drink of choice. I just kept drinking my elixir, which he didn’t even seem to notice. I could feel his confusion and slight concern, which made me more nervous in turn. “Ariel? What is it you wanted to talk to me about?” He finally asked after we both took a few bites from our meals. I swallowed hard, taking a sip from my thermos to stall. “Dad…I…” I sighed, taking a deep breath to actually get the words out. “I have a boyfriend.” He choked on his coffee slightly, spitting some onto the table. I widened my eyes but hastily cleaned it up for him, asking if he was okay. “I…I’m fine. But you…have a boyfriend?!”  I rolled my eyes, nodding solemnly.
