Ariel
I awoke to the screeching sound of my alarm the second it went off. Adrenaline raced through me, and I promptly backhanded the clock off of my nightstand and a few feet away, ultimately unplugging it. I ran a frustrated hand through my messy hair with a sigh. It had been the third time I had done that this week. I stood nevertheless, picking it up, plugging it back in, and setting it neatly on the end table. I slipped into a pair of brown skinny jeans, a white camisole, and a forest green v-neck sweater, fixing my necklace and attaching my gold bracelet to my left wrist. I quickly went to the bathroom, washed my face and applied my make-up before grabbing my schoolbag and purse, and heading down the stairs for breakfast. As usual, my mother was still asleep, though every night she was out, she always said she’d see me in the morning, which I have yet to witness.
With any luck, she would’ve forgotten to mention my little mishap at school to my dad. I grabbed a bowl of cereal, and ate quickly while texting Emma to make sure she was up (she needed an immeasurable amount of support to get up in the morning). Once she started texting me coherent (or at least they were semi-coherent…) messages, I left her alone and drank my milk. I tip-toed up the stairs to brush my teeth, and slipped on my two favorite hoodies to begin my walk to school. I listened to my ipod like I did every morning, which sort of got me through the day, besides having Emma, Dexter, and Remi. I wrapped my scarf around my neck just as I shut the door behind me, and was on my way. I would’ve taken my car, which usually sat pitifully in our garage, but I was afraid of what the other kids would do to it, so I reluctantly left it at home each day. I couldn’t help but remember the two wolves I saw last night, and wondered if they had migrated in from another town. I loved animals, and would even go as far as to say that I knew a lot about them, and found it strange that only two wolves were in the area.
I was at school by the time my musings were over, and sighed as I headed to my locker. I grinned as I thought about the girl whose nose I had broken, and reminded myself to tell Emma. I took off one of my hoodies and my scarf, grabbed the books I needed for the day, and headed to homeroom. My teacher was always there early, and she marked me down as present as soon as I set my things on my desk. I continued to listen to my ipod until Dexter poked his head in the door. I smiled, shutting it off and meeting up with him in the hallway. “Hey Dexter,” I murmured, dipping my head to him. “Morning Ariel…You wanna’ go in the courtyard for some pictures?” I shrugged, though I didn’t particularly enjoy being photographed. But Dexter really had a way with his camera, and I enjoyed seeing the finished product. I didn’t really have to model for him, since he said most of my mannerisms and natural poses were “absolutely perfect”. So, I usually just sat or stood around as he snapped pictures off like crazy.
Emma ran and jumped on his back a few minutes later, and I couldn’t help but burst out laughing at his expression. “If you would’ve broken my camera, I might have stabbed you…” he growled, fixing his hair once she slid off of him. “Nah…you love me too much.” He rolled his eyes, taking pictures of her and some of the two of us. Once the ten minute bell rang, we went back to my homeroom to warm up, and waited for Remi, who usually arrived two minutes before being marked down as late. “You guys remember the girl I hit in the face yesterday?” I asked, unable to hide my excitement. Emma and Dexter nodded, their eyes wide. “Yeah…what about her??” “I broke her nose.” “SHUT UP!!!!!!!!!” Emma shrieked, causing my homeroom teacher’s head to jerk unnaturally in our direction. Dexter’s mouth hung open, and their silence told me to elaborate. “Apparently, that girl’s mom called the principal, who in turn, called my mom.” “Are you in trouble??” Emma asked, wincing slightly. “Not as of yet. But I can’t imagine not being called down to the office today…” “What our little mermaid do this time??” Remi asked, strolling in like he owned the place. I rolled my eyes at his totally unoriginal nickname for me. Every guy who flirted with me and learned my name ALWAYS used that line…always. Seriously…it never failed.
