I jumped when my alarm went off, but I didn’t hit it off of the nightstand. I was barely able to get up; I was exhausted from meditating yesterday. If I would’ve known becoming an Immortal would be so draining, I might’ve reconsidered. At any rate, I got up and fumbled around in my closet for something decent to wear. I settled on a forest green sweater dress with long sleeves, and dark brown leather boots. I applied my make-up, which really did its job in making me look less tired, and added waves to my hair. I grabbed a bagel and swiped some cream cheese on it, brushed my teeth, and did a once over in our downstairs mirror before grabbing my hoodies and walking to school. If I was going to be this tired tomorrow, I figured I would need to take a personal day to rest up. I didn’t have many thoughts running through my head as I listened to my ipod, but the familiar eerie feeling crept up my spine, and I whirled around. I scanned the area for someone…anyone…but came up empty handed. I realized that I had no idea what vampires looked like, and remembered Kat said they weren’t that good looking, so I figured they blended in with most humans. That really didn’t help me, and I stood there for another minute before quickly making my way to school.

I went to my locker, hung up my hoodies, grabbed my books, and headed to homeroom. Emma was grinning at me when I came in, and I rolled my eyes. “So?? How’s Dimitri?” “He’s fine. Now, shut up before I have to hurt you,” I growled, sitting in the desk next to her. She scowled playfully, but that weird gleam was still in her eyes. “Are you meeting him again today?? Things seem like they’re getting pretty serious…” I bit my lip, wondering what I was supposed to keep telling her. That really didn’t help the situation, for she beamed like a kid in a candy store. “I…He’s been introducing me to his family. They wanted to thank me and all…ya’ know, for showing him around and everything.” She squealed, and I had to cover my ears. “Ari!!! That’s adorable!!!!“ I rolled my eyes, hoping I wasn’t turning red, though my cheeks felt hot. “It’s nothing. So, that’s where I’ve been. And I’m supposed to go back today.” She smiled, and when the two minute bell rang, she darted to her homeroom. I suddenly remembered I was supposed to go down the shore this weekend, and texted Dimitri on what I should do. I really didn’t think it was a good idea to go with my friends when there was apparently vampires after me, and he agreed. He told me to make up an excuse to stay, and I sighed. I really didn’t want to start lying to my friends, but he assured me things would get better. I stopped texting him as homeroom started, and ten minutes later, I was off to meet Dexter in art. We finished our paintings, and Mr. Moore said we could free draw. I painted the Guardian symbol using pointillism, like the project we had just finished, and Dexter drew a person in his most awesome, dark, shady style he loved using. He hugged me before we went to our separate locker rooms, and I changed into dark blue sweatpants and a black v-neck t-shirt. Emma wore white pajama pants with little Scottie dogs, and a navy blue t-shirt. I reluctantly clipped my hair back, and she threw hers to the side. “Oh…Emma. A-About the shore. I can’t go. My mom wants me to help her decorate for Christmas…” She frowned slightly, but nodded. “It’s cool. Are you guys getting a tree this year?” I shrugged, my stomach churning as she totally bought my lie. “I dunno. Probably. But it won’t be for a few weeks.” She nodded, and we were off to the gymnasium. We met up with Dexter and Remi, ran a lap, and pretended to play basketball again. I panicked when I began to sense a vampire, and looked around wildly. “Ar, are you alright?” Remi asked, and I smiled weakly. I don’t think I fooled anyone. “Yeah, fine! Sorry…I just thought I heard someone call my name…” He shrugged, tossing the ball to me. I bit my lip as I tossed it to Emma, a lot harder than I had intended. I felt the adrenaline pour through me, and began breathing heavily. I kept looking toward the door, but I didn’t see anyone. I knew for a fact no one in my gym class could’ve possibly been a vampire, unless it was Ms. Lawley. She could’ve eaten small children, and I wouldn’t have been surprised…
