Dimitri
Ariel’s conversation with Leikos and Lupa didn’t give me much to go on, except that she wasn’t happy I was going with her to the movies tomorrow night. And here I thought I was being nice… I shook my head, the image of her amulet fresh in my mind. She had noticed the medallions on our wolves, and it would only be a matter of time before she noticed mine… I shook the thought, taking off the headphones. I left the audio and video room, surprised to see Scarlet out of her room. She was still mad at me, but she would manage a few words here and there. I glared at Chris as he stared at Kat’s butt. However, it wasn’t for that reason. “So? Learn anything?” He asked, not even bothering to look at me. “No, and for your information, your text messages suck. Now she thinks I’m some over-confident jerk.” “You are over-confident, but not when it comes to women,” Scarlet muttered, stalking back to her room with her crimson and black thermos. I rolled my eyes, turning to Chris. He laughed, shrugging. “I dunno. Most girls find that kind of stuff sweet.”
“I think you’ll find out soon enough just how different she is,” I murmured, taking a sip of elixir. He shrugged, leaning back on the chair he was sitting in. Kat was making herself some dinner, which didn’t look or smell appetizing. I leaned against the wall, wondering how on Earth I was ever going to talk to Ariel about Immortal stuff. Emrick expected us to have more progress than this by Sunday night, which was rapidly approaching. “Quit worryin’, Rookie. You’ll be fine,” Chris grumbled, fiddling with one of his rings. “Yeah, you’ll do great! You’ll have a headset in, so we’ll hear what you have to say. And we’ll help you if you’re in a pickle,” Kat assured, turning to smile at me. I dipped my head to her, even more uncomfortable. I really didn’t want either of them in my head. Especially when I was around Ariel. They both had totally different ways of romancing someone, and their conflicting views were going to give me a headache by the end of the night.
I tried not to think too much about it, and whipped my head up when I heard wolf paws pad in through the back door. Leikos and Lupa came trotting into the kitchen, sniffing the air. Leikos met my gaze, like he was trying to read my expression. Lupa padded toward Emrick, who was in the main hall. Leikos layed outside of the kitchen, watching the three of us. “So…how are you thinking about telling her?” Chris asked, still flipping his ring between his fingers. “I think I’ll have to set up another time to meet her, when we’re alone.” “Yeah, you can’t go blabbing about Immortals when she’s with her friends,” Kat agreed, putting her dish into the microwave. She grabbed herself a glass of water and leaned on the counter, facing us. Why did I have to be the lead on this?? I would’ve much rather had Scarlet deal with all this stuff. Then again, knowing her, she’d just have Ariel kidnapped so we could tell her everything here. That certainly wouldn’t go well… “I kinda’ liked Geoff’s idea. Just meet her in the woods one night with the wolves, and tell her a little bit. Say ‘If you want to know more, meet me…’ and then tell her somewhere.” I nodded, considering it.
I’d rather have a more open explanation than that. I wouldn’t want to play guessing games. “That’s not bad, but I like Dimitri’s idea, too. They can go someplace private, and he can spill stuff to her there.” “But what if she totally freaks out? Screams her head off, or something?” I laughed, her hardly seeming like the type. “Hey, it could happen. Immortality does weird stuff to people…” “I’ll figure it out. I’m going to bed now, alright? We’ll regroup in the morning,” I said, waving a goodnight to them from over my shoulder. Leikos lifted his head as I left, and I rolled my eyes as I spotted Tasha on my bed. She was a young wolf; snow white with ice blue eyes. She wagged her tail at my arrival, and I couldn’t help but smile. “Tasha, off,” I muttered, pointing with my finger. She just kept wagging her tail, despite my even tone. “Off,” I repeated, and she slowly picked herself up and slumped off my bed. “That’s better. Good girl…” I murmured, petting her head before closing my door to change. I put on a pair of black and blue plaid pajama pants and a plain white v-neck t-shirt before brushing my teeth and heading back to bed. Leikos had pushed my door open with his nose, and was at the foot of my bed when I returned, his bistre and cinereous-colored fur illuminated by the moonlight. His eerie yellow eyes always made me uncomfortable, especially because his gaze seemed so human. I stepped over him and threw the blankets around myself, shaking the feeling off. I sighed as I looked out of my window. So much for getting rid of my human life…
