Ariel
I awoke to my alarm, jumping to my feet. I wiped the sweat from my forehead, going over to my nightstand to silence the incessant beeping. I quickly got dressed, fixed my amulet, put on my vervain ring, and did my make-up and hair before eating breakfast. I hadn’t realized I was starving until the smell of my bacon, egg and cheese sandwich wafted through my nose. I ate it ravenously, quickly cleaning the pan and plate I used before grabbing my hoodies, scarf, and school bag. I checked my phone before I walked out of the door, surprised to see a text from Dimitri.
: Dnt 4get the ear piece. Turn it on by touching the button on the back. :
“Crap,” I muttered, running upstairs to get it. I swiped it off my dresser, stuffing it in my pocket. I opened my door, nearly tripping down the stairs. Once I regained my balance, I glared down at the sharpened sticks until I realized what they were. I looked around frantically, quickly stuffing them in my bag before reading the note.
Aim for the heart.

I rolled my eyes, crumpling up the note before shoving it, too, in my bag. I debated on whether or not to turn on the ear piece as I walked to school, and stared at it for a long time. I finally pressed the miniscule button on the back, and when it flashed green, I hesitantly put it up to my ear. “Mermaid?” Chris asked, and I face palmed myself. “If you’re the one going to be in my head all day, I’m throwing this ear piece into the street,” I growled, and I heard him chuckle. “Would you rather I put your boyfriend on?!” He teased, and I uttered a string of curses at him before he put someone else on. “Ariel! Good morning!!!” Kat cheered, and I took a deep breath to center myself. “Morning Kat.” “Feel anything iffy?” She asked, and that’s when I realized I looked like I was talking to myself. “No, not yet. And I can’t exactly keep talking to you guys…I’ll look crazy.” “Of course. When you get to school, cough, and we’ll know to zip it.” “Alright,” I muttered, fixing my curled ponytail. Chris came back on, talking to me quickly.
“Hey there, Gorgeous. Now, I know you may not like this very much, but while your pretty little head was sleeping, we came up with a plan, no thanks to Dimitri. We figure the vamp, or vamps, will try and talk to you today. They like making contact with their victims before they feed from them. Not to worry, because you’re armed with stakes, and us. I would’ve given you one of my awesome weapons, but Emrick said to hold off.” “Get to the point,” I barked, rolling my eyes. “Right. So, when they talk to you, act friendly. Ya’ know, let them sit with you at lunch, and whatnot. Then, get them to meet up with you somewhere after school, around dinner time or so. When you show up to meet them, we’ll be with you, hiding of course, and then we’ll somersault out of nowhere and kill their asses.” “Take them hostage!!!” Dimitri scolded, and I could imagine Chris rolling his eyes. “Yeah, yeah. Same thing. Anyway, sorry to use you as bait, but it’s our only option.” As much as I wanted to kick him where the sun doesn’t shine, I had to agree. Being bait definitely had an edge, and when the others kidnapped them, we’d be able to get some answers. “It’s a good thing I’m wearing my hair up today then, eh?” Chris laughed. “Alright!! You’ll have them drooling all over you, and not just because you have a great body! But, if they get too handsy and you’re alone, don’t hesitate to stake ‘em.” “Right,” I muttered, getting myself focused as I felt the familiar feeling.
I coughed, and Chris told me they would all be listening. I quickly went to my locker, and met up with Dexter and Emma in homeroom. “Hey!” She called, and I smiled to her. That reminded me that I would actually have to decorate my house for Christmas this weekend, and I mentally face palmed myself. “Ooh, who’s that?? She sounds hot!” Chris said, and I had to restrain myself from baring my teeth. “Hey guys. What’s up?” I smiled to them even though I felt totally exposed. I didn’t want the others to hear every word I said! “Not much. I finally finished editing those pictures, though. They look awesome,” Dexter murmured. “Oh, cool! I’ll have to check them out later. Are they on Facebook?” He nodded, and I turned to Emma when she started to speak. “Omigawd, Ar. Bella’s going to have her kittens within the next few days. I’m so excited!!!” She squealed, and Kat mimicked it in the background. It was creepy beyond words. “That’s great! I’m happy for you,” I said with a smile, and she nodded. When the two minute bell rang, they gave me a hug, and Emma said she’d see me in gym. “Damn it!!! Why don’t we have a camera??!! It’s been a long ass time since I’ve peeked into a girls’ locker room…” Chris growled, and I shook my head as he and Dimitri started bickering. Once homeroom was over and I made my way to first block, the feeling returned, and I kept my eyes peeled though I didn’t blatantly look for any vampires. I still had no idea what exactly I was looking for, but I suddenly felt the weight of the two stakes in my school bag. I sat with Dexter in art like I did every day, and we started our new assignment, which was a watercolor painting. I just decided to do a forest at night; something simple without a lot of detail. I made a rough sketch, showed Mr. Moore, and began painting. Dexter and I talked for a while, and he tried to get some inspiration.
