Ariel

I wasn’t refreshed when I woke up. In fact, I was the complete opposite. I was tired and restless at the same time. I didn’t sleep well, since Dimitri’s words were playing over and over in my head. He knew what my symbol meant?? He would “explain everything”?? What the hell did that even mean??! I sighed, getting myself out of bed. I texted Emma, Dexter and Remi that I might see them later, and went downstairs for breakfast. My parents had got in late last night, so I’m sure they’d be asleep for at least another few hours. It was just around 9:15 AM, and I yawned as I poured myself a bowl of Frosted Flakes. I listened to my ipod as I ate breakfast, washing my spoon and bowl before getting a quick shower. I changed into a blue-charcoal laced camisole, dark denim skinny jeans, a grey and blue-charcoal baseball v-neck t-shirt, and a pair of black Sierra suede boots. I straightened my hair, applied my make-up, put on my jewelry, brushed my teeth, and headed back downstairs. I was washing and putting away some dishes from last night when I heard scratching on my glass kitchen door. I tentatively opened the curtains, squinting at the bright, pale gray sky.

My eyes nearly popped out as I saw my wolf standing calmly on my back deck. “What are you doing here?!” I hissed, looking around. Its usual companion wasn’t here, and I looked down at it in wonder. “Give me a minute,” I muttered, closing the door before it could weasel its way in. It whimpered once, but sat down obediently and waited. I washed my hands, ran upstairs for my hoodies, scarf and cell phone, wrote my parents a quick note, and then headed outside. I suddenly remembered I was supposed to meet Dimitri somewhere, and wondered if my wolf was taking me to him. I followed it into the forest, realizing how different everything looked in the day time. “Where are we going?” I asked, not recognizing the forest after a while. My wolf tilted its head at my voice, but didn’t stop walking. I managed to catch up to its pace, and we were side by side. My skin began to tingle, and somehow I knew Dimitri was close. Sure enough, a few minutes later, after the sensation had me rubbing my arms like crazy, my wolf hopped over some bushes, leading me to a new clearing. I trampled my way through them, my boots getting caught on some of the branches.

I brushed myself off, standing up straight to meet Dimitri’s strange, yet oddly captivating gaze. I suddenly remembered how mad I was at him, and frowned, eyes hard. “Good morning to you, too,” he teased, a slight smirk playing across his lips. “Whatever. You said you’d tell me ‘everything’, and that’s why I came here. So start talking…” He laughed, closing the space between us quicker than what I thought was humanly possible. I stood there blinking for a few seconds, quickly regaining my composure. I wasn’t letting my guard down around him, not even for a second. His face remained the same, but his eyes betrayed him, showing traces of sorrow. “I will tell you…but…I…” Suddenly, my reflexes itched for me to react. I half-turned only to have my mouth enveloped by a hand covered in a black leather glove, and a sharp prick in my neck. My assailant smelled of cherry blossoms and pears, which was a little overpowering at first. I felt myself drifting into unconsciousness, anger the only thing keeping me from completely falling asleep. The gloved person let go of me just as quickly as they had attacked me, and Dimitri leapt forward to catch me. I wanted to kick the both of them, and my leg twitched feebly in response. He yelled something at his partner, but his words were too quick for me to catch. “I’m sorry, Ariel…” he murmured, his voice deep and soothing; raindrops falling on leaves.

I wanted to punch him; more so than I had last night. His voice had never soothed me before, and I certainly didn’t want it to now. My wolf whimpered and ran to my aid, looking down at me helplessly with those golden-yellow eyes. I tried to call Dimitri an asshole, but I think it came out something like “maffle”. He chuckled, a cello playing in an empty hall, and shifted my weight in his arms as he picked me up. I so didn’t want him carrying me!!! I tried to move myself out of his grasp, but apparently, only convulsed, which was oddly painful. “Don’t fight it…you’ll only hurt yourself,” he whispered, beginning to walk with me. My wolf whimpered again, and I longed for it to attack the both of them. I bared my teeth as best as I could at Dimitri, my fury burning within me. I couldn’t believe he was kidnapping me!!! What the hell did he want?! I twitched in agony, breathing deep. “Sleep,” he urged, maneuvering his hand over my eyes. The sudden darkness made my eyelids even more heavy than they already were, and I couldn’t fight it any longer, no matter how mad I was. Sadly, my rage began to disappear, and I fell into a dreamless, blissful sleep, hating the way I fell limp in Dimitri’s arms. I wasn’t this weak little girl who needed to be cared for, and I aimed to show him that when I woke up.
