Chapter Eight:

   ~*Katalina*~

Something about him made Katalina shiver. Katalina gasped as she recognized what had been bothering her. "Your--your..." She trailed off.
Aric looked at her, confused. "I am a what?"
"Your like Sam." She said simply. The wind drifted across his skin, as did his smell. She breathed it in. She felt different, seeing him here. In the woods.
Something shifted in her, she felt the need to walk up to Aric and kiss him. To hold him, to love him, and to tell him as much. "Why do I feel like I know you?"
"Because you do? I seem to remember you eating a chocolate cupcake." He joked, shoving his hands in his pockets.
"No. More than that." Katalina said, moving forward with her hands stretched out. Aric stiffened.
"How much do you know about us?" He asked, taking a step back. Katalina hid the hurt in her eyes.
"Not much. Sam said he had to think about things."  Katalina crossed her arms.
"Well. There are things you need to know." He answered, crossing his arms. Not wanting to go home, Katalina looked on the floor, and then sat down. "What are you doing?"
Katalina looked up. "Well, seeing as you probably dont want to take me to your house in the middle of the woods--"
"--How do you know that's my house?" Aric asked.
"--And I feel no desire to go home, we're stuck here. What?" She finished, squinting up at him. Aric looked down at her.
"How do you know that I live in the woods? Why do you assume that it's my house?"  Aric repeated, turning twice in a circle before sitting down.
Katalina raised an eyebrow. Aric shrugged. "Wolf-thing."
Katalina nodded. She didnt even dare telling him how she knew it was his house.  She had smelled him. Then ran away before being caught. "OK. So explain. Now."

~*Aric*~

Momentarily side-tracked, Aric sighed. This was all so new to him. "OK. So, have you heard any myths about Wolfs? I need somewhere to start."
Katalina thought. "I've heard about Mates."
Aric cursed. Of course she chose that topic first. Aric hissed. "Another topic."
Katalina's eyebrows shifted on her beautiful face. "No. I want to know what your hiding from me."
   "No, Kat. Another topic."
   "Aric! Tell me, damn-it!"
   "No! Katalina!"
"Aric!" Katalina screamed, throwing her hands in the air.
"God-Damn-it, your human!" He growled, then cursed. He knew how close he had been to shouting the truth.
"What the hell does that have to anything?" Katalina hissed, standing up.
"For fuck's sake, Kat, it has to do with everything!" Aric screamed, standing. Katalina flinched slightly, but didnt move.
"And what would everything be, Mr. Awesome?" Katalina asked, heated. Aric blew up, his temper rising.
"Your my fucking mate, Kat! That's everything! That's what you need to know! But your human, and I will NOT be mates with a vunerable little human being!" He screamed, his words yelling through the woods. Katalina stared at him. That's it. She knew he was hiding something from her.
A lump the size of a watermelon formed in Katalina throat. And Aric could feel two emotions rolling off of her; complete sorrow, and blinding anger. "Are you serious?!" She shrieked. "I'm human? Therefore I'm worthless, and not worth love?"
The woods shook, like an earthquake. Katalina's eyes blazed with anger; Aric watched the forest move around her. The trees seemed to move closer to her; wind ruffled Katalina's hair. Aric looked at her. "Kat.."
Katalina's chest rose and fell. "You reject me? Why?" She cried. Tears streamed down her face. And suddenly, the wind stopped, but the rain started, as if crying with Katalina.
And then, with faster movement than a human should have, Katalina ran out of the forest. Stunned, Aric just watched her go.

~*Katalina*~

It felt as though a huge peice of her heart had been taken from her. How could he just reject her like that? He seemed nice! She stopped at the edge of the forest, looking back in. Then she looked up at the sky, rain falling. But, as she stepped off the forest floor, she noticed that it wasnt raining anymore. She looked back at the forest, it was raining in the forest, but not here?
"Oh who cares?!" Katalina screamed at herself, running into her house. She looked up as she slammed the door. "Mom?" She cried.
   "Hello, Katalina."

~*Aric*~

"You did what?" Sam demanded, looking at Aric like he was beyond crazy.
Aric ran a hand through his hair. "I basically told her that I couldnt love her because she's human." he groaned, falling back on his bed.
"Aric; why'd you tell me this?" Sam asked suddenly.
Aric looked at Sam. "Because your probably the only one who would listen."
"Fair enough. Look, you need to get your prioties straight. Do you love her?" Sam asked, looking at Aric as though wanting to say something.
"Love is a strong word, but I would like to get to know her, yes." Aric answered, sitting up.
Sam nodded. "And your not against loving humans?"
Aric sighed. "No. I guess not."
"Then you need to hear my story." Sam said, sitting on the bed. Aric looked at him; was this what he was trying to say?
   "What's that?" Aric asked.
"She was beyond beautiful. With pretty red hair, and deep blue eyes. I hadnt meant to met her; but fate brought us together. In the most horrible way, too. Something had heated me up, and I ran in Wolf form blindly. Without knowing, I ran into the road. There was one honk--one only. Before the sound of her scream bought mortal terror to me.
"Her name was Aimee, and she....I waited in the hospital for three months for her to wake up. When she never did, I cried for days, nights, and then I went Rouge for a few years, blind with anger at the fates. Then I found the Alphas' pack, they saved me." He said, smiling sadly.

~*Katalina's Mommy*~

Katalina looked beautiful, something her Mother had always envied. Allison watched as her daughter ran the short distance between them, and hugged her. Katalina cried into her chest, and Aliison rested her chin on her daughters head, smiling slightly. "Honey, what's wrong?"
Katalina stiffened in her arms, causing Allison to pull back to look at her. "Kat?"
"The guy I liked rejected me!" She cried, hugging Allison again. Allison hugged her tight, and the led her to the couch, where Katalina cried for a half an hour. When all the tears had dried, Allison brushed some of her daughters soft blond hair away from her face.
"Your letting a guy get to you?" Allison asked.
Katalina shifted uncomfortably. "Mom, I think I might like him-like him."
"As opposed to wait, babe? Not liking him. I'm not dense, darling, I can tell you like him." Allison said, shaking her head at her daughter.
"No. I barley know him but I think I might be in love with him. Is that even possible?" Katalina whined, new tears leaking from her pretty blue eyes.
Allison grabbed her daughter, and brought her to her chest. "For me it was."
