Chapter Three:

   ~*Katalina*~

Katalina looked out the window, the teacher droning on and on. She watched as a bird flew close to the window, as if looking at Katalina. "Katalina?" A faint voice tore Katalina out of her reverie. Mrs. Jerome stood at her desk, staring down at Katalina with a disapproving look. "Did you plan on learning something in class today?"

Katalina just stared at the teacher, her eyes focusing again. The teacher seemed to give up, and walked back down the isle to the board. Katalina heard some snigger's, but wasn't effected by them. To be honest, she was kind of used to the unwanted attention. She turned her head to the window once more.

Naturally, the bird was gone. Behind her, she heard kids gathering their things; Katalina began to do the same. She sighed when the bell rang, knowing that what awaited her was an empty house. Katalina's mother Allison is a fireman, and rarely home.

Missy waited for Katalina by their lockers. "Hey, Kat." Missy smiled. Katalina smiled and reached for her locker. "About this morning.." Missy trailed off. Katalina looked at her expectantly. Missy sighed. "My friend called me this morning, he needed help on studying." She said simply.

Katalina didn't believe it, but didn't push it. She nodded instead, and piled her books into her locker. Missy sighed. "Look, I'm sorry."

Katalina looked at her, closing her locker softly. "I'm not mad. I just have things on my mind." That was an understatement. Katalina took photography lessons, and her teacher was threatening to kick her out if she didn't find an inspiration. She had to hand in some pictures, something that spoke to her teacher, Mr. Diego.

Missy nodded, seeming distracted. Her back stiffened, and suddenly she was hugging Katalina saying, "Mom needs me, gotta go! Bye, Kat!" And then she was gone. Katalina stared after her as Missy disappeared into the crowd of kids rushing to leave school.

Katalina silently blended into the kids, shaking her head slightly.

"Hey, Dad. You wanted to talk?" Aric said, sitting in his fathers office. His father, Paul, looked up from his book.

"Oh, hello, son." Paul said, nodding. "Now." He put down the book, and took of his glasses. "I would like to talk to you about your un-found mate."

"Dad," Aric groaned. It wasn't the first time he'd heard this. Aric is sixteen, going on seventeen and he still hadn't sought out his mate. "I'll find her soon, Dad."

"Aric, you need to think about your future. Soon, I will step down from the thrown, and you need to have your life straightened out."

Aric nodded. "Yeah, Dad. I hear ya'." Aric said, sighing. Paul sighed as well, knowing his son wasn't appreciating the lecture. Aric read the look on his father's face.

But before either of them could respond, Aric's mother walked in. She saw them talking and gasped. "Oh! Sorry, boys...Do you want me to leave, hon?" She asked Paul. Jillian Jenson was a small wolf, tanned skin, and black hair that came to her shoulders. Her intimidating black eyes were surprisingly kind and friendly. She had a small frame, and was still beautiful for a mother, and wife of an Alpha Wolf.

Paul Jenson sighed. "No, darling, you can stay. Aric was just heading out for a run." Aric's head snapped to his father. A 'run' meant that his father wanted him to run around the town once or twice, searching for a sign that his mate would be somewhere near.

Jillian nodded. "By that do you mean another search for his mate?" His mother guessed, smiling slightly. "Paul, you cant force him to find a mate, these things take time."

Paul sighed sadly; he just wanted the best for his son, like all dads. "Yes, dear, I understand, but I want him to think about the future. His mate is his future."

Jillian shook her head and moved toward Paul. "Baby, let him do his thing. His mate might a closer than you think." She winked, like she had a secret. And then left.

Aric stood, that run sounding good all of a sudden. "Bye, Dad." And then Aric walked out.

Katalina's foot hit the pavement softly, barley making a sound. A flash of grey caught her attention. A wolf ran into the woods; it stopped Katalina in her tracks. It was beautiful. Katalina ran then, she ran the short distance to her house. She ripped open her backpack, and snatched her camera. She looked back at the woods, how it seemed to call her silently.

She ran, her feet now hitting the ground with a loud thud. She stopped at the entrance of the woods, and cautiously stepped over the imaginary line.

A blot of electricity ran through Katalina, she gasped at how right it felt to be here. She ran her hand across a tree, feeling the soft leaves; momentarily forgetting the reason she had ran so quickly into the woods.

Katalina moved farther into the forest, moving slowly, feeling as if she could never fully except the beauty of it all. She raised her camera, and snapped a picture of a tree. Something about it made Katalina stop and stare; it gave her the feeling of happiness, a feeling of acceptance. Something she hadn't felt for a while; or since Max died.

Before Katalina could stop herself, she dropped gently to her knees, then to her back, and then she looked at the dimming sky through the branches. It was breathtaking, but something told her that no one else would appreciate the woods like she did. But she snapped the picture anyway.

Something vibrated through her, Katalina set her camera on her stomach, and let her finger tips touch the forest floor. Katalina closed her eyes. It felt so right to be here, to touch the floor, and Katalina loved it.

Katalina heard something. The pitter-patter of feet? Katalina sat up, and looked in the direction of the sound. How she heard it, she didn't know. She raised her camera, and waited for something she knew was coming to come into view. Then it came. A wolf. With gold eyes that made Katalina's pale blue ones look plain.

And then Katalina snapped the picture before feeling a un-real sense of deja-vu. Had she seen this wolf before?

The wolf hadn't seemed to see her as it suddenly halted and turned it gold, luminescent eyes on her.

~*Aric*~

The girl was breathtakingly beautiful. Her pale blue eyes stood out like stars in the night sky, her blond hair glistening in the little sun that shown through the clouds. A different scent hang in the air, and what he smelled stopped Aric in his tracks. She was his mate. This beautiful being belonged to none other than Aric himself. His heart dropped. Oh, shit.
