"Darling, lovers have tender spats all the time. There's no need to blow things out of proportion. You've had your little fling with the boss. Enjoyed making this playboy your conquest. Now its time to return to me. You know I will forgive you... eventually. "
"Forgive?" I choked out incredulously.
"Yes, darling. You did abandon me."
I turned to Eric frantically, "Nikki is a liar!"
His eyes narrowed on mine and for the longest time he stared down at me in silence. Then he gave a short nod as if ariving to a decision.
"You're right," he said darkly. " Nikki is a liar."
Lifting his gaze to pin it onto Nikki's feline golden eyes. "I am beginning to realise she might well be the greatest liar I have ever met."
That stunned me. It was a bit extreme. Eric was letting his natural dislike for Nikki shade his reactions.
I opened my mouth to defend Nikki. She wasn't all bad. Not the way Eric was making her out to be.
But he spoke first.
"She lied to everyone right from the beginning. She claimed you were her partner. That you were old fashioned. That you prefered not to let people know that you were a lesbian like her. I couldn't help my attractions to you but because of her lies, I did my best to deny that attraction. For years I struggled to keep my distance. All because of her lies. Even when you stared at me with blatant love in your eyes, she claimed you two had a tiff. That you saw yourself as a bisexual and that my masculinity was a momentary intrigue to you."
I gaped outright at Eric. And watched him run a frustrated hand through his hair. "I couldn't hold myself back for much longer. I tried everything I could think off to disuade that infatuation in you. But despite my many affairs... all the women I arranged to be unexpectedly in my bed just in time for you to barge in and throw them out, I couldn't disuade you."
Oh my god! What is he saying? Was he saying what I thought he was?
