We ate in companionable silence. The silence was so loud it was almost overpowering. After the hectic pace and endless sounds of Sydney, New York, London and Hong Kong, the silence here was a little hard to take.

Cutting into the meat on my plate. I popped it onto the edge of my fork. Taking a big bite, I chewed the tender and luscious meat. I looked up at Jace and saw that he did the same. Shirtless and so cute, he ate his meal with all the seriousness of someone enjoying a home cooked meal prepared by someone else. Having to cook his own meals and eat it alone for so long would have taken a toll of sorts. I guessed with him, he just got used to the endless silence.

"So...," I said aimlessly in an attempt to break the silence.

"Yes?" Jace questioned when I fell silent. Try though I may, I couldn't come up with anything else. I stared vacantly at him before my natural curiosity kicked in and saved the day.

"So what have you been up to since... well , since I last saw you?" I asked then stuffed another mouthful of mash and slaw. I looked at him expectantly, while I chewed.

"Been dabbling in this and that. I have expanded the farm quite a bit since you were last here. I bought over the Lewis Hamilton's plot. They were selling off, intending to move away back to the city. So I offered to buy. Life in the farm isn't for everyone. Its a harsh way of living... and lonely too."

"It had been harsh," I thought back to my time here. Only back then, I hadn't felt it entranced as I had been with Jace. I hadn't been lonely and I had been oblivious to the harsh realities.
