The sun gleaming on my face was what slowly made me peel my eyelids. I had no idea what time it was or even what day it was, and I was momentarily confused on what was happening. As I stretched and the soreness and vague memories came back, I gasped and quickly sat up.
I wasn't in my room I could tell you that. I didn't even recognize the room so where was I?
I slowly got up, wincing slightly when my legs wobbled, but then shivered as I realized I was still wearing the wet robe. I turned around in a circle, finding the closet on the opposite side of the bathroom and quickly jumped to it, breathing in relief when I saw clothes. As I changed, all the memories kept on replaying in my head, and I had to stop and take deep breaths while my head was halfway in the shirt.
"Come on Charlie....... Come on you can do this......"
After I managed to change myself into some soft and a couple of sizes too big clothes, I slowly walked to the only door left and quietly opened it. The hallway was bare and deserted and I then knew we weren't in the palace. I took a while guess and took a right, my feet slowly padding on the smooth marble floor as my eyes wandered everywhere.
My guess was the right one since not even thirty seconds later, I found myself facing a living room. My stomach began to growl at the smell of food coming from somewhere, so I let my nose guide me to it. I quickly walked across the space, up two steps and then took a right, avoiding the small four person table. Three steps later, I stood at the entrance of the kitchen, frozen at the person who's back was to me.
I didn't say anything and neither did he. He just kept on moving a spatula on a pan and then checking the oven every two minutes. He stiffen slightly as I he stood back up, but then he relaxed and kept his back to me.
"You hungry? I'm making dinner."
Dinner? I took two steps back and looked out the window that was behind the table. There was a smooth field from what I could see and hundreds of feet away stood trees covered in golden light. When I quickly looked up at the sky, my mouth fell open because sure enough, the sun was setting and it was dinner time.
"Yes please," I answered him back very softly and he nodded. Not wanting to be just standing there and doing nothing, I went to the fridge and took out a couple of drinks. Wasn't sure what he would want, but for sure I was going to stay far away from the alcohol. I didn't want....... Well you know.....
I moved the few chilled drinks to the table at the same time Ian picked up two plates and followed me. I quickly sat down in front of one of the plates and he sat across from me with a silent sigh.
He began to eat immediately and I so badly wanted to eat as well, but my hands did not want to move. I looked down at them and saw them shaking slightly so I took deep breaths. Once the trembling was slightly controlled, I picked up my fork and began to eat the eggs. Apparently, we were having breakfast for dinner.
We didn't talk. We didn't even look at each other. Our eyes were trained on our plates as the food slowly disappeared and for once, I was glad for the peacefulness. Not even halfway done with my meal, my appetite disappeared so I stood up and took my plate back to the kitchen. Since it seemed like we were alone in this place with no help, I decided to clean my plate so at least there wouldn't be molding food the next day.
"Leave it," Ian's voice filtered to me and I jumped, dropping the plate. It landed with a loud crash on the floor and I watched as the pieces scattered everywhere. I quickly got down on my knees, ignoring as a few tiny slivers dug into them and began to pick up the big pieces by hand. A bigger hand stopped me as I reached for the biggest piece of them all and I froze.
