His Parents

Linda and Darrel Curtis
•They met at a diner.
•She was a waitress, he was a random customer.
•It was love at first sight.
•They were both very humorous people, and had a lot of inside jokes between themselves.
•They drew straws to see who would name the child, and Darrel won for all three, thus Darrel Jr., Sodapop and Ponyboy.
•Linda didn't mind the names because she was so in love with him. Besides, they were original.
•Linda would've been the only one to die in the car crash, but Darrel thew himself over her to protect her, hence them both dying.

Cornelia (Nellie) and Stuart Cade
•Cornelia calls herself Nellie instead of Cornelia because the name Cornelia is too "Soc-y".
•Nellie's parents are Egyptian immigrants, and Stuart is from Tulsa, which explains Johnny's dark skin tone.
•Nellie and Stuart's relationship was fine, until they had a child. Fearful of parenthood, Stuart started drinking, and became abusive.
•Nellie became depressed that her husband abused and didn't love her anymore, and blamed Johnny.

Gloria and David Matthews
•Gloria loved David's sense of humor.
•The eloped, leaving Michigan. They got married when David was 18, and Gloria was 17.
•Gloria had her first child when she was 20. David was 21.
•When Two-Bit was born, David started leaving the house more and more, almost to the point of being absent.
•Then, all of a sudden, he came back. They had another child, Mikyla, and everything seemed fine.
•Then David began to leave again. Finally, when Two-Bit was 5, and Mikyla was 1, he left for good. Gloria had to become a barmaid to support her two children.
•Two-Bit stole David's wallet before he left. This started off his life of stealing.
Two-Bit's middle name is David, after his absent father.

Catherine (Kathy) and Michael Winston
•Michael was abusive, and threatened Kathy to date, and later have a child with him.
•She became emotionally unstable, and committed suicide when Dally was 2.
•Michael continued to be abusive to Dally, who ran away when he was 12.
•He joined several bad gangs on the streets of New York.
•Dally finally moved to Tulsa when he was 15.

Cynthia and Xavier Randle
•Xavier was a Soc, and Cynthia was a Greaser.
•They fell in love, and Xavier decided to give up his privileged life for love. 
•He locked his money in a chest and moved to the West side.
•Together the had a son, Steve, and a daughter months later, Annie.
•Cynthia died in a gang fight when Steve and Annie were 12. She was a peacemaker and she had tried to break it up.
•Annie ran away when she and Steve were 13, for unknown reasons. Steve never mentioned her to the gang, because the grief was too much for him.
•Xavier and Steve started to fight. Xavier kicked Steve out of the house repeatedly, only to welcome him back the next day.
•When Steve came back, Xavier gave Steve some money from the chest from his days as a Soc.
