I rested my arms onto the large birch desk which held my many books and notes. My hands ached from writing for such a long period of time. Checking my rectangular, digital clock, I notice it's already 4:00, I had been studying for a whole 2 hours. I laid my heavy head on top of my crossed arms and stared out of the small open window which flooded my bedroom with a bright, blinding summer light. Outside looked so calm and tranquil. I watched eagerly as small toddlers and children played tag together in the park and I watched as they flew their home-made rainbow-coloured kites high into the crystal clear blue skies. It all looked so perfect. I felt like everything was finally going to be okay, like everything was meant to be.
Closing my science and maths study books, I pushed my chair out and got up. I walked downstairs and into my living room as my stomach gave off a loud growl.
I giggled at the noise and waltzed into the kitchen, on a hunt for food.
"The Studies Show An Increasing Amount Of Disease And Infection In LEDC Countries. They Said That If We Continue Going On As We Do Now Our World Will.."
Dean turned off the radio as he noticed me standing in the doorway. Him and Georgia looked concerned and scared.
"Hey Riley. I Didn't See You There Poppet"
Dean gave me a weak smile as he watched me waddle hungrily over to the large fridge which stood tall on the side of the grey kitchen wall. I opened the fridge door and a wave of cold, fresh air hit my face. I sigh in relief. It was so hot out, I really needed the relaxing breeze.
"What Was That On The Radio Dean.?" I ask, full of confusion.
"What.? That Was Nothing Little One. Don't You Worry."
He patted my head as he and Georgia strolled out the room and down the hall trying to look casual.
I heard them whisper worried thoughts to each other, it was adult talk and so I decided not to be nosey. Although, I was extremely curious about what I had just heard on the radio. After sipping some chilled water I pop my head around the doorway trying to spot my older siblings. To my surprise, they had went upstairs.
"These Global Conditions Are Getting Worse. Please, Don't Contribute To This. The End Is Near"
"Poppet!" A loud and angry voice called out from behind me.
I drop my glass in shock and it smashed into a thousand small, glistening pieces.
Georgia crossed her arms and stared at my in disbelief. I could tell she was mad. Her face didn't show all anger though, she also showed fear and worry.
Standing in broken glass and a puddle of water, Dean rushed in with our house phone. He looked frantically around the room and sweat pored from his greasy forehead.
"Riley What The.. It Doesn't Matter Right Now. Georgia, We Have To Hide. They're Coming".
