Carter held my hand.
"Tell Me The Story Again!"
I pleaded as we sat together on his bed.
"I've Told You It A Hundred Times Riles"
It was true, I had made Carter repeat the story each night before I slept.
"Please, I Love Hearing It"
A smile grew on his face. He held me tighter.
"Okay, Fine. It Was Long Ago. The Times When There Was Only Nature No Destruction From Man"
He began to tell me the story. I knew every word, but hearing Carter say it made my heart leap with joy.
We knew that out base was risky and open, but we couldn't leave. There wasn't any where else to go.
I wish Carter hadn't insisted on staying, maybe he'd be here with me right now.
It was almost impossible to think about. The fact that I had lost Carter and Nightmare in just one short day.
I quickly snapped out of my day dream when I heard thumping of footsteps near to me.
"I Am Sargent Blair. You Will Be Following My Orders And Training"
Sargent Blair kept his eyes on me the whole time he spoke. The heavy camo gear that covered me started to itch.
"Mr. O'Conner Is There A Problem?"
"It's Miss. And No Sir"
His eyes widened.
"Miss?" He cackled.
"Sir Yes Sir" I stood tall.
I adjusted my helmet as the line of silent boys all peeked at me.
"Miss O'Conner To The Field"
One of the Sargent's assistants tried to speak.
"Sir You Can't-"
"Daniel Step Back Now"
I marched over to the battle field. Only professional Warriors were suppose to train there.
"You're A Girl?"
He raised his eyebrow.
I stood opposite him as he bounced from one foot to the other.
"I Don't Have A Penis, If That's What You Mean"
He smiled behind his protective mask and leapt forward in attempt to grab me.
I quickly ducked under his arms and slid his leg out of place, which caused him to fall.
"That All You Got?"
He teased me. His head was covered in dirt and mud.
I cocked my head sympathetically.
"Depends" i replied.
Before I knew it the Sargent had gotten up and gripped onto my arm. He swung me in a circle almost three times before letting go, causing me to skid into the thick mud.
My arm felt like it had been dislocated and my head was damp from sweat.
I wasn't giving up.
Get Up Riley.
I charged towards him, dodging his arms and getting him into a sturdy headlock.
I could see the surprise in his face. He swung me over the top of himself and got on top of me as I laid in the mud.
I thought back to Hayden.
The Sargent saw my panic and subtly lifted himself off of me.
I gripped his arm and kicked him in the back.
He was now back in the mud.
"Good"
The Sargent chuckled. I could see he was proud.
"It's Not Over Yet"
I lifted him up, but he had to help me, and I punched his face and gripped his head.
He struggled before surrendering.
The boys in the line cheered for me and I sarcastically bowed.
I felt so accomplished. The Sargent was a large, muscly guy.
"Thanks For Letting Me Win"
I whispered to him.
Sargent Blair winked back.
"No Problem Kid"
I took off my helmet and he ruffled my already extremely messy hair.
"Welcome To The Team"
The boys raised their helmets to me as I walked past them. I think I have just made new friends I smile to myself.
"Riley O'Conner?"
Turning around I see a boy, around my age. He wasn't a warrior in training like the others though.
"Yes?"
Sargent Blair answered. He stood in front of me, blocking the boy from my sight.
"Hi Sargent. I'm Tom. I Need To Borrow Miss Riley For Just A Second"
So this was Tom.
