Tom was a dark haired boy with light hazel eyes. His skin was unevenly blotchy but tanned.
"Be Back By Four Kiddo"
I nodded at Sargent Blair. Training was going to start after I got back.
"You Riley?"
Tom asked as I approached him.
"You Tom?"
He didn't laugh. His face was as still as bricks. There was no way I was getting on his good side. That is, if he even had a good side.
I sighed.
"Yes I'm Riley" I said groaning.
"Good. Follow Me"
Why did I have to miss my first day of training for this?
Tom was slightly taller than me, he lead the way inside the first building.
I hadn't seen him before, I mean, I guess I had only been there for two weeks or so, I hadn't seen much.
It was obvious he felt guilty.
"Why Did You Shoot Emma"
It was the only thought in my mind.
"I Have Strict Orders To-"
"I've Heard That A Hundred Times. Tell Me, Why Did You Shoot Her?"
Tom turned around to face me.
"Riley-"
"You're Not A Bad Shot"
He didn't smile, but his eyes lit up.
"Thank You"
He wasn't use to compliments, I thought. But I couldn't help Hayden slip into my mind.
"Why Wasn't It Hayden"
I whispered.
A burning tear rolled down my cheek. I couldn't believe Emma was the one who had lost her life.
She didn't deserve it.
It made me angry and confused.
"I'm Sorry Miss"
Sorry? Oh he's sorry?
"No Your Not! Nobody Here Cares About Us! I'm Going Home!"
I was now shouting at him. I couldn't take it anymore. Tom didn't know what to say or do.
"Please Take Me Home" I weeped.
"Riley I Can't .. I I Don't.."
"Please"
More tears poured from my eyes as I thought about everything. If only me and Carter had stayed in that hotel. Maybe he'd still be here.
I wasn't letting myself believe Carter was dead. I couldn't, even if he was.
Tom continued on to a large series of metal doors. Each had sturdy locks on the outside.
I shuffled behind him so that I didn't have to see those rooms or what they held.
That is, until he unlocked one.
I jumped at the sound of metal clanking against metal.
The room held only a single hospital bed. However cracks and gaps peeked through the walls allowing natural light.
"Go In"
Tom pushed me gently.
"No Please No"
"I'm Sorry"
I tried to plead for his compassion and mercy but Tom wouldn't budge his straight face.
I turned to the room behind me. The bed had straps on, I was not laying on that anytime soon.
I stepped inside but before he could close the door I put out my foot to stop him.
"Tom" I clenched my fists.
"Yes Miss O'Conner?"
He began jiggling his keys.
"Why Are We Actually Here?"
The door slammed shut and I was left standing in almost complete darkness.
I curled up on the floor. It was cold but at least I still had my camo gear on to help capture any heat my body produced.
I found myself surrounded by my own silence. Deep breaths and the occasional tap of my feet was all that I knew.
If this continued on, I'd go mad.
