Tap tap tap.
I knew a day or two had passed. The sun would rise and set but it didn't change my mood.
My stomach growled. I hadn't eaten in what seemed like forever.
Tap tap tap.
I began to hum a song to myself. I had to break the miserable silence.
Sargent had to of sent someone for me when I wasn't back in time. I prayed that he would of. Maybe they were about to burst in.
Tap tap tap.
I hit my foot on the floor.
It wasn't in time with the song, but it didn't bother me.
The picture of Tom opening the door raced through my mind. Was this a punishment?
I remember that I wasn't suppose to hurt Hayden after I had seen Jessica.
But to be fair, he deserved much worse than that.
My humming drifted into into clumps of unrecognisable sounds and squeals.
It hurt to hum anymore, there was no water and my saliva had dried out.
I laid down on a small piece of the floor.
Slowly I drifted off in to a deep and aching sleep.
"Do It Already"
"Ma'am Are You Sure?"
"I Gave You Orders Carl"
Carl. The doctor? He was alive?
"Yes Ma'am"
A sharp pain shot through my body. I felt myself violently jolt.
"Hey"
Someone was whispering. But I knew I was all alone.
"Hey Are You Up?"
They continued to call out to my limp body.
I knew that voice. It was calm and made me feel safe. Not many people had a voice like theirs.
Was I imagining things?
"Please Don't Be Dead"
Dead.
I hated that I knew that horrible word all too well.
"I'm..I'm Okay"
I heard the other person sigh in relief.
"Thank God. I Saw Them Strap You Up And Operate On You. I Was Scared You Had Died"
My eyes winced open. Operate? Who was operating on me and why? As I Focused my eyesight, it was pitch black.
I was alone.
"Over Here"
I turned to the left side of my room. Someone was peeking through a small gap between walls.
It scared me a little, but I guess this was the person behind the voice.
"Carter?"
A weight was lifted off my chest. It was Carter.
"Riles? Oh God Riles!"
He tried his best to whisper but he couldn't contain his excitement.
"I Thought You Was A Boy"
He laughed at me as I looked down at my camo.
"Why Are You Wearing That?"
His voice was still teasing.
"I Was In Training"
"You Train?"
At this moment Carter would of raised his eyebrows if I could see him.
"Suppose To Be"
I hung my head and crawled into a ball.
Wrapping my arms around my knees I stared at the gap.
"Carter."
"Yeah?" He mumbled.
"Is That Really You?"
I didn't know if I was even really awake yet.
"It Is Riley"
A small smile grew across my mud splattered face.
"Come Here"
I moved quickly over to where the gap was. Holding my hand on my heart, I peered through.
The moon shon a dim light onto the room beside mine.
As I stared through, I saw him.
Carter.
"How Long Was You Here?"
"Since They Caught Us"
"Why?"
He laughed. I didn't really see what was so funny.
"I Fought Two Guards Off Of You Before They Injected Me And Knocked Me Out, I Might Of Even Killed One"
He killed one, I thought. Carter had tried his best to save me.
"I Thought You Was Dead"
"You Need To Stop Presuming That. I'm Always Here"
"Promise?" I mutter.
"I Promise"
I lean against the freezing and uncomfortable wall as I close my eyes. This was the closest I was going to get to Carter tonight, but I wasn't complaining.
