I came to a a banner announcing, WELCOME TO SNOWDIN! I had arrived at a little town with warm little wooden buildings.
The sight of such a friendly town fills me with determination.
I walked into the nearest building. It was a shop. The shop was warm, with many interesting things (mirrors, jars, books, boxes...) on tables and shelves in the back. On the wall was a scroll with that symbol on it, the three triangles and the winged circle. The monster behind the counter was a purple rabbit, standing upright. She was wearing a tank top and sunhat, which seemed rather innappropriate for the weather. "Hello, traveller. How can I help you?"
"Hello."
"Hiya! Welcome to Snowdin! I can't remember the last time I saw a fresh face around here." Suddenly, her face turned stern. "Where did you come from? The capital?" She changed her mind and smiled again. "You don't look like a tourist. Are you here by yourself?"
"Uh... yeah. Uh, so what's life like here?"
"Life is the same as usual. A little claustrophobic... But..." she smirked apoligetically. "...we all know deep down that freedom is coming, don't we? As long as we've got that hope, we can grit our teeth and face the same struggles, day after day..." she smiled. "That's life, ain't it?"
"What's the town history?"
She sighed. "Think back to your history class... A long time ago, monsters lived in the Ruins back there in the forest. Long story short, we all decided to leave the Ruins and head for the end of the caverns. Along the way, some fuzzy folk decided they liked the cold and set up camp in Snowdin. Oh, and don't think about trying to explore the Ruins... The door's been locked for ages. So unless you're a ghost or can burrow under the door, forget about it."
I was glad I'd already gotten the chance to explore the Ruins. I guess the only way to explore it is to fall into it. "What is there to do here?"
"You want to know what to do here in Snowdin? Grillby's has food, and the library has information... If you're tired, you can take a nap at the inn. It's right next door— my sister runs it. And if you're bored, you can sit outside and watch those wacky skeletons do their thing."
I laughed. I'd already seen plenty of that.
"There's two of 'em, brothers, I think. They just showed up one day and... asserted themselves. The town has gotten a lot more interesting since then."
"I'll bet. What are you selling?" I asked.
"These bisicles will restore your energy," said the shopkeeper. The bisicles weren't two-wheeled vehicles; they were popsicles. They were two popsicles stuck together. Bi-sicle. "You can use it twice. Then there are these cinnamon bunnies. It's my own recipe." I bought a few bisicles and cinnamon bunnies for fifteen and twenty-five gold, then left the shop. "Bye now! Come again some time!"
Outside the shop was the Box. I put a few of my items in the box, like the snowman piece and the Nice Cream. I decided to go into the inn, like the shopkeeper said. I hadn't gotten any sleep since I left the Ruins, and I was very tired. There was another bunny behind the counter, cream-colored rather than purple. "Welcome to Snowed Inn! Snowdin's premier hotel! One night is eighty gold."
"I'll stay," I said, handing her the gold.
"Here's your room key. Make sure to bundle up!"
I went up to my room. It was a small room with a bed, two tables, and not much else in it. I turned out the lights and crawled into the bed. It was nice to have a rest...
