The inside of this room was astounding. It was drastically different from the grayness of the rest of New Home and the castle. This room was golden. The walls were golden. The tiles on the floor were golden. Golden pillars lined the hall, and between them, golden light shined through pointed windows with geometric patterns and the Delta Rune in the glass. The Delta Rune was also inscribed upon the doorway I came through. Where was the bright light coming from? The bright lights in Hotland had been artificial, but this... it looked like sunlight. Could it actually be sunlight?
I SAVEd, and began to walk down the hallway. My footsteps echoed on the tile floor. I stopped dead as a bell chimed three times, a loud bell that sounded like a church bell. Sillhouetted against the bright light from the windows was someone very familiar. "So you finally made it. The end of your journey is at hand. In a few moments, you will meet the king. Together... you will determine the future of this world. That's then. Now. You will be judged. Your will be judged for your every action."
This person is the person I'd least expect to meet me in a place liike this, let alone say something like that.
"You will be judged for every EXP you've earned," he continued. "What's EXP? It's an acronym. It stands for 'execution points'. A way of quantifying the pain you have inflicted on others. When you kill someone, your EXP increases. When you have enough EXP, your LOVE increases. LOVE, too, is an acronym."
LOVE. I remembered Flowey mentioning it. I had almost forgotten about Flowey, and I had definitely forgotten about LOVE.
"It stands for Level of Violence. A way of measuring someone's capacity to hurt. The more you kill, the easier it becomes to distance yourself. The more you distance yourself, the less you will hurt. The more easily you can bring yourself to hurt others."
"But I haven't hurt anyone," I said quietly. Somehow, I couldn't speak to him the way I could before. He seemed to be such a different person, to have some kind of quiet authority.
"...but you," Sans said quietly, "you never gained any LOVE. 'course, that doesn't mean you're completely innocent or naïve. just that you kept a certain tenderness in your heart. no matter the struggles or hardships you faced... you strived to do the right thing. you refused to hurt anyone. even when you ran away, you did it with a smile. you never gained LOVE, but you gained love. does that make sense? maybe not. ...now. you're about to face the greatest challenge of your entire journey. your actions here... will determine the fate of the entire world." No pressure or anything. "if you refuse to fight... asgore will take your soul and destroy humanity. but if you kill asgore and go home... monsters will remain trapped underground. what will you do?" Sans asked.

I sighed. I knew I'd have to make this choice. The weight of it fell upon me. It seemed selfish to kill someone just to go home, and leave all monsters trapped underground, but I really didn't want to die. There was no way out. If only... if only... if only I could bring all the monsters to the surface with me... that's impossible. "I... I don't know!"

FanfictionThis is a novel version of Undertale's Pacifist Run. I hope it reads like a novel, rather than simply a narration of the game. Almost all dialogue is taken directly from the game (except for the protagonist's, which is obviously improvised). In the...
