I walked back onto the narrow grassy path through the pond. I went up the path in the other direction. The further I walked, the darker and darker it got. It was even harder to keep myself from falling in the water now that I couldn't really see where I was going. I realied the light was coming from glowing pink crystals sitting in the water. A sign nearby said, 'Without candles or magic to guide them Home, the monsters used crystals to navigate.' Within a few minutes, the crystal lights dimmed, and I was left in total darkness. I couldn't see anything now. I was definitley going to fall in the water now. Panicking, I craweled across the path on my knees so I could feel where the ground was.
I noticed a small lantern glowing with a blue light up ahead. I crept up to it and touched it. It lit up brighter, and I could see the path again! I tried to take the lantern with me, but it seemed stuck to something in the water. I kept going, touching occasional lanterns when the crystals dimmed. Every once in a while, I ran into Woshua, Aaron or Moldbygg, and struggled to fight them in the growing darkness. I crawled along the path, desperate to find another lantern. I panicked again when I realized that there was no more path; just water! But the water was shallow... carfully, I waded through it. It was just a bit brighter now... I stepped out onto rock. Finally... it was still very dark, but I noticed a glowing echo flower... "Behind you," it whispered.
With a sense of dread, I turned around. Suddenly, the cavern lightened, and I was face to face with Undyne, caught at a dead end. This was it... she walked forward slowly, her metal boots ringing off the cavern walls. "Seven," she said. "Seven human SOULs♥. With the power of seven human SOULs, our king... King ASGORE Dreemurr... will become a god. With that power, ASGORE will finally shatter the barrier. He will finally take the surface back from humanity... and give them back the suffering and pain that we have endured."
I thought. I kept hearing opposing perspectives on the king. He seemed like a sweet guy, but he wanted to become a god and cause humans pain and suffering? Was that just what Undyne wanted him to do? Did monsters really need a hypocritical vengence on humanity? In spite of myself, I said to the threatening figure, "Is that really necessary? I mean..."
"Understand, human?" she snapped. "This is your only chance at redemption."
"Wh—what? Redemption from what?"
"Give up your SOUL... or I'll tear it from your body!"
"What have I done? I don't want to be the sacrifice for the cause! I don't want monsters to suffer, but I don't want humans to suffer either!"
Undyne didn't seem to be listening to me. One of her blue energy spears appeared in her hands. She took a stance and began to walk towards me, threatening me with the spear so that I'd give up my SOUL willingly. She ran at me, and kept the spear point a foot away from me. There was no way to get out of this. I wished I could wake up...
"Undyne!!! I'll help you fight!!!" I couldn't believe it. Every single time I had nearly fought Undyne, Monster Kid had interveaned. He ran out of a nearby bush and stood between me and the spear point. He looked between us. "YO!!!!" he cried, staring at me. "You did it!!! Undyne is right in front of you!!! You've got front row seats to her fight!!!"
Despite my dire situation, I buried my face in my hands. Yes, Undyne was right in front of me. So was the tip of her spear. "MONSTER KID!!!"
He looked between us again. "... wait. Who's she fighting???" Undyne didn't move or speak, but she was irate. Anger was coming off of her like heat waves. In frustration she grabbed Monster Kid by the side of his face and dragged him away. "H-hey! You aren't gonna tell my parents about this, are you?"
