Brantley's Pov

I was walking around the house after the fire fighters put the fire out. That took about 4 hours to do that. Sadie came and took the kids and my mama back to her place for the rest of the night. I still can't believe this happened t my family. I'm just glad that we all got out safe and sound. We asked the chief of the fire fighters and he didn't know how it got started. If someone did this to me and my family, they will have me to worry about? I'm not going to stand for this? My family was in that house. No thank you. 

I was looking around and there is nothing left. Our whole house is gone. chief Michaels said we were lucky to get out when we did. We wasn't lucky, the good Lord was watching over us. I walked over to Vi, who was looking at our place as well. I'm so glad I have her back in my life. I walked behind her and and wrapped my arms around her. I know she was crying again. This was our dream home and now it's gone. I kissed the top of her head. 

" I love you Brantley?" Vi said to me. I gave her a little squeeze and put my chin on the top of her head. Now that she is with me again, I'm not going to let her go again. 

" I love you babe?" I said to her. We was looking at the burned down house. 

" I still can't believe this all happened to us. I mean what if we didn't get out in time. Brantley our children was there? We could have--" Vi started to cry hard and harder. 

" Hey, hey, hey, look at me. We are safe, we all got out, and that's what's the most important. You know that much as I do." I said to her. Vi held on to me like her last moments was now. 

" I know, I'm just scared." Vi said to me. I looked down at her. 

" I am too. But we are safe and you have me and I have you too fall on. We are going to be safe." I said to her. 

" Where are we going to live?" I said to her. Vi looked up at me. 

" We could stay in the double wide I'm renting?" Vi said to me. I looked down at her. 

"  I think we have too. I mean we can stay there until I can get us a new home built." I said to her. Vi looked up at me. 

" I don't think you mother will like it there?" Vi said to me. I kissed her on her cheek. 

" Oh well. Come on there's nothing for us to do now. Come on let's go and see our kids." I said to Violet. We walked over to my truck and got in. We took one more look at our home, before we went to Mother Harpers place. 

As I was driving to Sadie's place, I looked over to Vi. She is so pretty. I'm so lucky to have her in my life and I don't care that I was 21 years old and Vi was only 18 when we got married. She is the love off my life. The only thing I wish I did different was not cheat on her. She is the best woman I know. 

" What are you looking at?" Vi asked me. I looked over at her. 

" You. The mother of my children. The love of my life?" I said to her. She looked at me. 

" You know being with me has changed you so much." Vi said to me. Now that is true. I still might ride my bike, hunt, fish, and sing, but going to bars, sleeping with different woman that part of me is over. 

" I only did it for you?" I said to her. She gave me a wink and smiled at me. 

" I love you Brantley?" Vi said to me. I looked at her. 

" I love you babe? Come here?" I said to her. Vi moved over to the middle of the seat. I put my arm around her. 

" You was so brave getting Asa out of the house?" Vi said to me. I kissed her head.
