Teardrops

Saturday came too quickly, and this weekend was best friend weekend.  Kristen thought it would be a good idea to invite our boyfriends with us this time, and I agreed with her until yesterday.

I crawled out of bed and threw on a sweatshirt and skinny jeans.  I slugged to the bathroom to brush my teeth and pull my hair into a messy ponytail before grabbing a poptart.

"Mom," I asked through her closed door, "Can I go to the mall with Kristen?"

"Sure," she groaned.  My mom never woke up until noon on Saturdays, and Kristen loved to be at the mall by ten, which meant waking up at nine so that I could rush and get there.

At 9:55 I parked in the Jefferson Mall parking lot.  The mall was huge and had at least a hundred stores and restaurants.  Also, close-by there was a movie theater, skating rink, and bowling alley.  A teenagers dream spot.

Kristen, Matt, Damien and I decided we would meet in the food court at ten, so Kristen and I waited there for our boyfriends.  They both ended up coming in at the same time.  I gave Matt a friendly hug and gave Darrien a kiss on the cheek.

"Hey, babe," he said, smiling and grabbing my hand.

We walked around and window shopped for about an hour and finally made our way back to the food court to grab a bite to eat.

"That purse was really cute though, Cassidy,"  Kristen said, pouting her lips. Kristen was really pretty. Her light brown skin looked perfect with her milk brown hair - which she just cut to shoulder-length. "I think I'm going to go back and get it."

"Kris, you're going to look at the price tag and change your mind, just like you did the first time.  Your mom would kill you if you paid that much for a purse."

"So, it's my money," she said, but she knew I was right.  She bowed her head, letting her short bob cover her spotless brown face.

"Cassidy has a point,"  Matt said.

"Well," she started to argue. "I know, but...."  Darrien chuckled.

"I want some ice cream," I said for the sake of a topic change.

"Okay,"  Darrien said, getting up from the table, "my treat."  Kristen and Matt got up as well, heading over to the Cinnabon booth.

As we walked over there, I saw some girl who goes to Jefferson High wink at Darrien.  What made it worse was that he winked back.  "What the heck?" I whisper yelled.  I'm not one to cause a scene, but I am one to tell someone how I feel.

"What, babe?" he asked, smiling and wrapping an arm around my shoulders.

"What was that?"

"What?"

"You just winked at her," I said incredulously.  He was clearly acting dumb.

"Hi, welcome to Fro-Zone, may I take your order?" asked/interrupted the petite girl behind the counter.

We both gave her our orders and Darrien paid for our ice cream.  As much as I didn't want to think him, I mumbled thank you anyway.

"Now's not the time to not trust me Cass," he said, poking me in the stomach.  He probably thought it would make me giggle, but I wasn't amused.

"What's wrong Cassidy?"  Matt asked as soon as we sat down with them.  Their Cinnabons looked really good.

I just shook my head, staring at the Cinnabon.  Kristen giggled.  "Do you want one Cassidy?"

"Yes," I practically growled.  Darrien chuckled.  "What about your ice cream?"

"I don't want it anymore."
