The cheers from the fans of Jefferson High's swim team were phenominal. What's even more phenominal was the fact that they were cheering for me.

"Let's go Cassidy!" my bestfriend, Kristen, and her boyfriend, Matt, cheered from the bleachers.

I flashed a quick smile. This was the most important swim meet of the season. The swim team coaches from the Unviersity of California and the University of Arizona are here to scout for new members. I'm used to having coaches come to scout all the time - being that we have the best swim team in Virginia, which is also one of the top ten in the country - but this time, these scouts are here specifically for me.

"You can do this, Cassidy. I love you." said my boyfriend, Darrien.

The cheers only made me more nervous as I made my way to my spot beside the pool. I could only focus on winning today. This was my only chance of getting into my dream school.

The whistle blew and I dived into the pool. The cool water drowned away all of the cheers, even though I'm pretty sure Kristen was cheering louder just to ask if I heard her like she does every meet.

I reached the far end of the pool and darted to finish first.

When I touched the wall and came up for air, I saw that I was in first place, and second place was a whole five seconds after me. I cheered for myself and smiled at Darrien. I started to climb out of the pool, but then there was a sharp pain in my stomach.

"Ah!" I yelled. Everyone quieted and looked towards me. Coach Warren rushed over to me with Darrien, Kristen, and Matt close behind him. I grabbed Coach Warren's hand so he could help me out of the pool.

"Cassidy, are you alright?" he asked.

"Yeah," I answered, "just a sharp pain."

"Take a seat, and drink this." he told me, handing me a bottle of water and directing me to a bench where all of my teammates were sitting.

"You did great out there!" Kristen squealed.

I laughed. "Thank you. I think I could hear your screams from under the water this time." I opened the water and started to drink it.

"You really were awesome, Cassidy. I think you beat a personal record." Darrien complimented. He grabbed a towel and wrapped it around me.

I gave him a kiss and asked, "Do you think the coaches liked me?" He looked up and smiled.

When I followed his gaze, I saw that both of the scouts were heading over to where I was seated.

I was going to stand up, but the thought made me dizzy. "Hi."

The bald, broad shouldered man spoke first.

"Hello, Cassidy. I'm Coach Baset from the University of California, and this is Coach Dupen from Arizona University."

"Hi, Cassidy," said the middle aged brunette. "It was a pleasure to see you swim today, and I would love to meet with you soon to talk about your future at Arizona University."

"Or," Coach Baset interrupted, "Your future at the University of California."

I beamed at them both. "I would love to talk with both of you."

"Great," Coach Dupen exclaimed. "We both recieved your information from your coach, and we'll be contacting you soon."

"Okay, thank you. It was nice to meet you."

They both said their goodbye's and turned to leave.

"I'm so proud of you," Darrien said, and gave me a hug. All of a sudden I felt sick, and the sharp pain in my stomach came back. I gasped. "What's wrong Cassidy?"

I shook my head, but the pain on my face was obvious. "I'm fi-" but then the sharp pain in my stomach came back, and didn't go away this time.

I screamed, then Kristen screamed, then I tried to muffle my screams by biting my lip, then everything went black.
