Chapter 9

I woke up at around 6:30, feeling like something big was going to happen. Good or bad? I couldn't tell -- I just had the feeling that something was going to happen that would change everything.

Attempting to shake the thought out of my head, I got up from my bed and walked into my closet, slipping on a pair of skinny jeans, converse, and a cream colored half-sleeve sweater. I curled my hair in ringlets. I applied light makeup before grabbing my bag and heading downstairs.

It was now 7:14.

Grabbing a piece of toast, I ate about half of it before eating a banana and walking out the front door where Liam sat in his car, waiting to drive me to school. Sliding into the passenger's seat, I pecked him on the lips before buckling up. He backed out of the driveway and we made our way to school. Everyone was buzzing and I furrowed my eyebrows, turning to Liam, "Any idea what this is about?"

He shook his head, "Not at all."

We walked up to Jill who smiled at me and glanced at Liam before turning and walking away with Alyssa. They seemed to be in a deep conversation.

"What's up with them?" I asked.

Liam just shrugged.

Walking into the building was worse. Everyone seemed even more excited about it. What was going on?

"I'll see you in third period, Faith," He leaned down and kissed me.

I smiled when we pulled back, "Yes you will."

I turned and opened my locker as he walked down the hall to his own. Drew closed his locker next to mine and smiled, though it seemed forced.

"Hey, Faith. How's it going?" He chirped. His voice was off, as if he were hiding something.

"Good. Though I'm curious as to what everyone's talking about," I told him slowly.

He waved it off, "Oh, you know, just a new student. We don't get that many here so it's kind of a big deal."

I nodded and walked to art with him.

Why would people be making such a big fuss over a new kid, though?

Art was boring considering the fact that Drew fell asleep five minutes in and I had no one else to talk to. I sighed and rested my chin on my hand as I waited for class to end.

"So, I heard there's a new kid," I sat down at lunch and everyone looked at me. Liam wrapped his arm around me tighter than usual, but I just shrugged it off.

"Uh, y-yeah.." Danny stammered.

I raised an eyebrow at her, but let it go, "So, any idea who it is?"

"All I know is that it's a girl," Justin sat down, "A hot one at that."

Maybe I just imagined his eyes flickering to Liam.

"It's this girl named Maddie Grey," Jill answered, "But that's all I know."

I nodded and turned back to my food, taking a bite of the salad I had gotten. Liam popped a fry in his mouth and everyone else just looked distracted. Our table was quiet for once.

I didn't like it.

The cafeteria doors opened and I looked over to see someone I didn't recognize. She was tall, around 5'10", taller than most of the people in here. She had blond hair and blue eyes, with almost no makeup she looked flawless. She wore a yellow strapless sundress with a red leather belt around it.

I wasn't afraid to admit I was jealous of her perfectness.

"So I take it that's Maddie," I said and everyone just kind of nodded.

Now I knew what all the buzz was about. After all, she was perfect.

She sat down with a table of cheerleaders and they seemed to know each other. Maybe they had had earlier classes together.

"I completely forgot about having to talk to Mr. Riley! I'll see you next period, okay?" Liam suddenly said.

I nodded and he gave me a kiss on the lips before striding out of the cafeteria. Sighing, I threw my salad away and glanced over at the cheerleaders' table to find Maddie was gone. I passed our table and walked out of the cafeteria. I just wasn't in the mood to socialize.

Walking down the hallway, I made a left turn to get to my locker and froze when I saw it.

This couldn't be happening. It just couldn't. My body felt heavy and my heart like it was about to explode from pain. Tears began falling from my face. I spun around and ran away from the hall and away from the school all the way back to my house.

Liam was kissing Maddie.

How could he do that to me? After he found me, his mate, he just goes and makes out with the new girl?

A sob escaped me.

Of course he would, she was prettier anyways.

Pulling my phone out of my bag, I looked for the bracelet I've had since I was three, but couldn't find it. My phone rang and I saw Liam's name on the caller I.D. I ignored it and got a voice mail, followed by ten text messages.

He knew I saw them and he was sorry.

But sorry doesn't fix what I'm feeling right now.

"Honey, are you okay?" My mom asked me, walking down the stairs.

I looked up at her. I was about to tell her I was fine when I realized I was still sobbing and looked like a wreck. My bottom lip trembled, "I'm not okay, mom. Not at all."

"Oh honey, come here," She said and enveloped me in a hug. I cried on her shoulder for a good twenty minutes before pulling away, "If Liam comes, he's not allowed in," I told her before walking upstairs and falling on my bed. I hugged my pillow and stared at the picture of him and I on my phone.

Was it all a lie?

No! My wolf shouted, He loves you!

I just shook my head, "No he doesn't."
