Chapter 19
Saturday.
Homecoming night.
The last homecoming for my brother and the seniors, my first homecoming here. My first homecoming with a date. My first homecoming with my mate.
Hey, that rhymed!
I sighed as I woke up, my eyes widening as it took in the time. 12:40!?
Groaning, I got out of bed and ran into my bathroom, quickly stripping and hopping into the shower. Rinsing my hair under the hot, pounding water I thought of the possibilities of tonight-- all of them positive.
Sue me; I was a girl excited for homecoming. What's so wrong with that?
Nothing.
Stepping out of the shower, I dried off and changed into a pair of shorts and a t-shirt, towel drying my hair before brushing and leaving it down. Hair would be the last thing, anyways.
Skipping down the steps and sliding into the kitchen, I took a bagel from the cupboard and slipped it into the toaster, spreading it with cream cheese and devouring it within minutes.
My mom walked into the kitchen, smiling at me, "So am I allowed to get you ready, tonight?"
I beamed at her, "Of course."
Her smile grew.
"Okay, so pictures start in five hours and Homecoming starts in seven hours. Wow, do we seriously need that long to get ready?" I questioned her.
She rolled her eyes, sighing, "Oh, honey. What are we going to do with you?"
Grabbing her purse, she smiled at me, "Get some flip flops on. We're going to the salon."
"Salon?" I asked her.
"Nail salon," She sang and I groaned.
My nails were hopeless.
After lots of arguing, my fingers and toenails were painted a dark red, maroon really, and they were coated with a shiny clear layer overtop them.
It was now 2:15, which left two hours about to get ready. My hair was completely dry now, styled up in a messy bun.
"Why don't you come in my bathroom, " Mom said, "I'll do your hair with my curling wand and my makeup."
I smiled gratefully, "Thank you, mom."
Sitting down in front of her, I watched as she got to work, wrapping up my hair and leaving it in elegant ringlet curls. When the curling was done, she pulled the top part back and clipped it with a silver ring. Bringing some hair over my shoulders, she smiled proudly at her work. I smiled, "It's perfect, mom."
"I know," She winked, chuckling.
"So what next?" I questioned.
She clapped her hands, "Makeup time!"
I sat still for the next thirty minutes while she worked her magic on me. Once she was done, she turned every mirror away from me, causing me to pout.
Apparently, it was now 4:45. Fifteen minutes until pictures.
Mom walked back into the room with my dress and silver heels instead of my red ones. Handing me the dress, she walked back out, leaving me to change. Stepping out, she gasped and tears began to well in her eyes. Giggling slightly, I wrapped her up in a hug, then proceeded with the shoes, "So what happened with the red shoes?"
