"I love you baby," Chris said, planting a few soft kisses on my lips.
"I love you too," I said, trying to hide my tears by looking down.
He pushed my head up slightly, making me look at him. "Kari."
"I'll be fine," I said, giving him a fake smile. Sadness filled his beautiful eyes and he kissed me softly again.
"We'll be together soon," he said, trying to make me smile. It didn't work so well. I felt eyes on me and I knew that people in the airport were watching us. I glanced over at a small girl, she couldn't be more than eight, smiling at us with hope in her eyes.
I pulled back from Chris and he looked at her. She walked over to us.
"Are you Chris Motionless?" She asked, sounding almost too intelligent to be a youngster.
"Yes I am," he said, kneeling down and smiling at her. "What's you're name?"
"Amanda," she said with a smile. "Will you sign my paper? My sister loves you and I want to give it to her."
"Of course," he smiled again, taking the little Hello Kitty notebook from the girl. "Where is your sister?"
She stood proud, a giant smile spreading across her face. "In heaven. She's an angel now."
"Amanda, what are you doing bugging these people?" A women in about her thirties, I think, asked. It must've been her mom.
"It's no bother," Chris said, handing the notebook back to Amanda. "There you go sweetheart."
She practically jumped into his arms, hugging him tightly. He smiled and hugged her back, whispering something in her ear and kissing her cheek sweetly. I smiled.
Amanda took her mom's hand and skipped away, not before I heard her say, "Mommy, do you know who he was?"
"Wasn't she adorable?" Chris asked, standing up and pulling me towards him. I nodded and buried my face in his chest.
The final call for his flight came across the intercom and I frowned.
He kissed me passionately, not breaking for a few minutes. Then he pulled back, holding me tight one last time.
"Until we're together again my beautiful Kari," he said, putting something in my hand. "I love you baby."
"I love you too," I called after him, wiping a tear from my eye. I looked at what he had slipped into my hand. A small piece of paper reading, 'I promise that I'll never hurt you again. You're my world baby. I love you.'
There was something else with it, something that made me gasp when I saw it.
A ring.
