"Which one do you need?" Chris asked as we stood in the chocolate aisle at Wal-Mart. It was almost midnight and for some reason, Chris wanted brownies.

"Semi-sweet," I responded. He pointed at one. I shook my head. "That's not the one I like."

He groaned. "Come on baby. I thought you were just gonna make them from the box."

"My mom taught me better than that," I said, smiling at his sigh.

"Does the brand really matter?" He questioned, annoyed.

"Yes, Chris it does, now stop being so gru-" I started when I got cut off.

"KARI!" I heard a voice call from the other end of the aisle. I sighed, wishing it wasn't who it was. It was Niko.

"Hey Niko," I said, giving him a friendly smile.

"How've you been? When did you get back?" He asked.

I shrugged. "I've been great. About a week or so."

He bobbed his head. "That's good. Kyran's sister said you worked with her in Dallas."

"Yeah," I grinned, remembering Gia. Chris shifted uncomfortably next to me. "Oh, Niko. This is Chris. Chris, Niko."

"Hey man, I'm a big fan of yours," Niko said.

"Thanks," Chris said, no expression on his face. I could tell he was irritated.

"Well, I gotta go, it was nice seeing you," Niko said before leaving.

"Will you just grab one so we can leave?" He asked, letting my hand go and starting to walk away. I sighed and grabbed a box and tried to catch up to him. I was walking next to him when I tried to lace our fingers back together, but he balled up his fists and continued walking.

The drive home was silent and full of tension. It was very uncomfortable. When Chris pulled into the driveway, he was out before I even got my seat belt off. I sighed again and went into the house.

"Chris," I called after him as his bedroom door slammed shut, seeming to make the house shake. I closed the front door behind me and put the chocolate in the kitchen. I started upstairs as Bleeding Through started blaring, causing me to jump. This was going to be bad. I knew it.

I pushed the door open and saw him sitting on his side of the bed, his back towards the door. I waited for the song to finish before I spoke.

"Chris."

Everything went silent. He turned off the stereo and slowly turned to look at me, his beautiful brown eyes full of anger. He sat, glaring at me, and I felt like cringing.

"Why are you so angry?" I asked.

"Do you really have to ask that question?" He asked, his voice harsh.

"Yes, because I don't know what's going on," I said softly.

"That guy," he said. I automatically frowned.

"I thought we were past that."

He closed his eyes. "You did it deliberately."

"Oh my god, Chris, when are we gonna get over this?" I questioned, starting to get annoyed. I walked over to him and stood in front of him. He peered up at me. I grabbed his chin. "Why can't you realize that I love you?"

"Because you don't," he said through clenched teeth. I let him go and stepped back slightly.

"I don't love you? I don't love you?!" I was starting to yell. This isn't good. "Do you realize that you're the only guy who can give me butterflies by just saying 'hi' to me? Or that when you smile, or kiss me, my knees go weak and my palms get sweaty? Or that I can fucking think straight 'cause I don't think about anything other than you? I uprooted my life for this Chris. And even after all the shit that's happened between us and all this time that I still would rather be with you over anyone? Because my worst day with you is still better than my best day with anyone else. If that's not love, then I don't know what love is."

He looked taken a back, his mouth falling open slightly. He spoke no words, just looked at me, his eyes no longer angry, but fearful. Almost scared. He wasn't angry about Niko, there was something else, and I needed to know what.
