  ✿Your POV

The next few hours were a big blur. I made it to my apartment broken. I fidgeted with my keys to opened the door. As the key fit into it's hole, I heard a familiar voice from behind me.

"(Y/N)?"

I turned around slowly. It was Kurapika. I turned back to the door embarrassed and a bit scared. Why was he here? I didn't want him to see me like this. "Kurapika? What are you doing here?" I asked quietly, still facing the door.

"What happened to you?" He said ignoring my question.

I opened the door to my apartment. "It's nothing. Don't worry about it. I just fell." I then went inside, closing the door behind me.

Kurapika's POV✿

It was a bit shocking to see (Y/n) like that. Her arms were covered with cuts and bruises. I didn't believe for a second that she was like that because she fell. She looked like on the verge of tears. I wanted to knock on her door and ask what was wrong. I almost did. But something about the moment stopped me. I figured that if she didn't want to talk about, then I wasn't gonna make her.

I walked into my new apartment. It was pretty empty since I just moved in yesterday. I got home a bit later, around 4:30. I joined the student council and had to stay after school. I didn't know (Y/N) was my neighbor until just now, it was a complete coincidence that she lived next door. It surprised me when I saw her coming home at the same time as me, I thought she was in some kind of after-school thing too. It could have been a new topic to talk about later. But when I saw her, I knew that wasn't it. It still worried me thinking about her. I couldn't help myself and decided to check up on her later. Until then I had my own things to do.

The first thing I did was unpack. That didn't take long, I didn't have many keepsakes. Just enough clothes and some essentials. Although I had one picture that I've kept with me along with a chained cross necklace. I put the picture face down and put the necklace round my neck. It was the only thing I had to remind me of my past. Bad memories I didn't want to remember but these swirled up anger that  I could never forget.

After a while, my curiosity and concern of (Y/N) was getting the best of me. I was getting ready to check on her but  I wanted to know more first. I didn't want to go in there knowing nothing at all, I feel like that would be rude. I decided to text Leah about it first.

Kurapika: It turns out that Me and (Y/N) are neighbors.

Leah: That's so cool! R U guys hanging out rn?

Kurapika: That's the thing. I tried to talk to her but she was covered in cuts and bruises.  Like she was beat up really bad. She said she fell but I don't believe her. I was about to check on her but I wanted to ask if you knew anything about it.

Leah: ....

Leah: I'm sorry.

Kurapika: What is it?

Leah: (Y/N) doesn't live what most people would call the perfect high school experience. She gets bullied. A lot.

I felt my hands clench into fists.

Kurapika: I'm gonna go talk to her.

Leah: Just be careful what you say to her. She doesn't like to talk about this.

With that final warning I go up. It was about 6:00 by then and I felt my stomach grumble. On a whim, I decided to pack two meals and took them over to (Y/N)'s apartment. It just didn't seem like she planned on eating so I thought it would be good if I brought some food for her.

I crossed the hall and knocked gingerly. There was no response. I knocked a bit louder this time but it was still futile. I turned the door knob and surprisingly it opened. I peeked my head in the apartment.

"(Y/N)?" I called out into the empty room. "Are you there?" I let myself in and stood closing the door behind me. "Since we are neighbors, I thought it would be cool to have some dinner together. It's not much, but it's good." I didn't smell any food cooking so i felt a little hope that bringing food was a good idea. I set the food on the counter and went in to find her.

Her apartment was almost identical to mine, although her's had way more decorations and furniture than mine. It felt nice and cozy. Everything was nice and tidy. In the living area, there was a full length white couch covered with colorful throw pillows. To the side was a comfy looking, baby blue bean bag chair and in the center was a small coffee table. Mounted to the wall was a TV and under it was a few shelves that looked like they held the cable box, gaming console, some movies, etc. The walls, painted a lovely lavender, weren't decorated with pictures of family and friends like I would have expected. Instead they were very bare and plain, but everything fit together in a way that was a perfect home. The kitchen had checkered tiles and matched the rest of the house and was decorated in a way that was simple and ornate at the same time.

Down the hall was the bathroom and (Y/N)'s room. Since one room had a toilet in it, the other room must have been (Y/N)'s. I knocked lightly, "(Y/N)?"

The door was closed but I heard quiet noises from the other side. I listened carefully, "Please go away."

I ignored her plea. "Can I come in?" I asked through the door.

No response.

I walked in quietly and saw (Y/N) sitting on her bed with her face buried in a pillow. I sat beside her on the bed and I gingerly set my hand on her shoulder, "What's wrong?"

"People are so mean." She whimpered. "I hate them. I hate all of them. I hate this world! I hate my life!"

I couldn't say anything. What was I supposed to say?

"Sometimes, I just wanna kill myself."

"Hey, don't talk like that." No one should ever feel the need to kill themselves.

"But it's true though."

I gripped her shoulders and turned myself so we were facing face to face. I looked her in the eyes but she kept her eyes shut. Like if she opened them, the world would end. "Don't talk like that," I repeated, my voice was at a yell. "Killing yourself won't solve anything."

As I raised my voice she opened her eyes and she raised her's to a point where she was screaming. "You think I don't know that! I'm not an idiot! Of course it won't solve anything. If I killed myself it would be letting them get the better of me! I'm not gonna let them win!" She paused taking a deep breath to recollect herself. Her head went back down into the pillow and, in the smallest voice I've ever heard she said, "I'm stronger than that."

I was shocked, not only at what I heard but at what I saw. "(Y/N)," I said. She looked back up at me. "Your eyes..."
