Kurapika's POV

(Y/N) pushed me away from her and I fell off her bed. "Don't look at me." She buried  her face in the pillow and hugged it close. I couldn't see it but tears we're running down her face.

Suddenly I felt a connection towards her, like we were kinda the same.

I tried to comfort her,but she cut me off."(Y/N), it's oka-"

"No!" She yelled at me, her eyes sealed shut just like before. "Don't you dare tell me that everything is okay!"

"Why not?"

"Because! Whenever I get attached to someone, become friends with someone, they always leave me! Then they will turn into the exact same people I hate today! The moment they see that I'm not just an average girl like everybody else, they turn into a completely different person. It's not my fault I'm like this. If I could change it, I would in a heart beat, but I can't and I'm stuck like -"

I slapped her.

She opened he eyes wide with shock. I lowered my head, my hair covered my eyes, so now the tables were turned. What she said infuriated me. "Don't speak like that. You're not the only one who has been through hell because of something they can't change."

Silence filled the air, it was thick enough to cut. I took a deep breath and said, "Sorry, I shouldn't have slapped you. That was out of hand."

She was speechless, she stared jaw dropped. I looked into her astonished eyes and studies them close. One eye the color of the deep blue ocean. The other, the color of burning fire. Finally she looked away, swallowing the lump in her throat that kept her from speaking.

"You should be sorry. It was out of hand."

The tables had turned, now I stared at her surprised. What was with this sudden change of attitude. She noticed my expression and continued.

"You should know that pain is relative. While one person can endure several stabs in the back, all it could take is one shank for the other to fall." She closed her eyes, burying her face in her pillow once again.

"I'm sorry" was all I could manage.

Lifting her head slightly, she looked at me with one eye. "You said that already."

I opened my mouth to reply but I couldn't find the words.

She lifted her head from her pillow completely and rested her chin on it. "I guess I should be sorry too. You came here to help and all I've done so far is yell at you."

Her words lingered in the air, no other sound was heard. Like a warm knife cutting through butter, a sudden loud noise broke our silence. It was (Y/N)'s stomach growl. I stared at her, holding in a laugh. Her stomach made such a funny noise, but it just didn't seem like the right time. She then let out a snort, so I knew that it was okay to laugh along with her. The soft smile that I remembered finally returned to her face.

"Are you hungry? I brought some food from my apartment. It's on the counter."

She nodded, "Yeah thanks. Just let me clean myself up a bit."

I looked her up and down and realized she was in the same condition as when I saw her at her doorstep. Still covered with cuts and bruises.

"I'll help you. You look pretty beat up," I offered.

She nodded once more and led me to her bathroom where she kept her first aid kit under her sink. After she splashed some water on her face, (Y/N) let me spray her open cuts with disinfectant and cover them with bandages. As I patched up her skin, I noticed scars covering the rest of her arms. She caught me staring at them.
