Your POV

My stomach churned and my knees weak. Ashely stood over me with nasty scowl, her marble blue eyes were now daggers and my peace and serenity were shattered like glass. My mind was blank and laced with fear. I looked down and tried to read but only ended up staring at meaningless words. What was I supposed to do?

"You're a smart girl, right?" She put my book down and forced her eyes to meet mine as they widened with fear. A smirk was planted on her face. "You rank first in our grade and you don't even have to try."

My mouth was dry; I could barely swallow the giant lump in my thought, yet alone say a single word.

"If you're so smart, how come you don't seem to know what's best for you?" Her voice was lethal venom.

My body was stiff with fear, and every bone in my body trembled.

"Don't you remember our little agreement?" She grabbed the collar of my shirt pulling me up to my feet but I did nothing. "Didn't I say to stay away from Kurapika?"

I felt tears build up but I refused to let them fall. I promised Kurapika I would wait for him. But how long would I be able to endure this torture?

I watched as her free hand pulled back, ready to inflict damage. I closed my eyes and saw myself lying on the floor once again broken. I saw Kurapika coming out only to find a hopeless mess. I gritted as the tears broke through and streamed down my face. Why couldn't I do anything? Why do I have to be so scared? Why didn't I just give up?

Even with my eyes closed, I saw the punch coming closer and closer; It was at full speed but I could only see it in slow motion.

Why couldn't I feel any pain?

I stood their anticipating it so strongly that I didn't notice it was never delivered.

I opened my eyes to see that her fist was still pulled back and ready. I didn't notice the tears that were streaming down my face. Confusion clouded my thoughts as I looked closer, but then I saw that I was wrong. She was caught mid-punch. But by what? As though I was living a life through the lens of a shaky camera, I blinked through the tears, looking for the thing that saved me from the sudden pain. I saw an arm, connected to that was a person.

Kurapika?

"What are you doing?" His voice was colder than stone. His hair covered his eyes but his very presence sent chills up your spine.

"K-Kurapika!" I stuttered, "Wha-what are doing here? Don't you still have a student council meeting to go to?"

"Kurapika." Ashley said with complete shock. Anger filled her voice as she clenched her ready to punch fist and I flinched as the hand that was wrapped around my collar tightened and moved viciously in her tantrum. She raised her voice and said, "Why do you defend her?"

Giving little time for Kurapika to respond with nothing at all, she gritted her teeth.

"Tell me! Why do you insist on defending her!" She continued, "Why do you choose to stay with this- this trash! This garbage! This pathetic excuse for a girl!"

She broke away from Kurapika's grip and I nearly lost my balance when she let go of me.

"Why don't you like me?" Her voice was quiet but still fuming with rage. Then she spoke up again. "I'm much more popular! I'm much prettier! I can give you so much more-"

She stopped as Kurapika looked her in the eyes.

My jaw dropped as I looked at him. His eyes glowed a beautiful scarlet. Without thinking, my lips moved themselves: "Kurapika." I said this but just barely above a whisper.

If looks could kill, Ashley would have been disintegrated into dust. His voice was steady but irate. With a sharp and deadly tongue, he spoke, "Don't ever compare yourself to (y/n)!"

Ashley's eyes widened in fear. As Kurapika stepped forward, she stepped back. Although one step was all she could manage before she was paralyzed in fear. Kurapika approached with fire burning in his eyes. He gripped her collar just as she did to me. He started to shout. "(Y/n) is ten times the person you will ever be! Don't ever say that you're above her! She's the nicest person I know and only scum like you would look down on her like this. You don't even know the definition of kindness-"

He would've gone on if I would've let him. He stopped as he felt my slight tug on the back of his shirt. He looked at me with the scarlet eyes and I looked back. The tears still came down but I cried no longer.

"That's enough Kurapika."

I watched his eyes turn back into their normal color as the cold hard star softened. He let his hair cover his eyes once more. "I'm sorry." He let go of Ashely and turned to me with his head down. He repeated, "I'm sorry."

We stood in front of each other. He refused to look me in the eye again. It was almost as if the tables have changed from last night. Although, last night seems like centuries ago. With a sudden impulse, I leaned forward and embraced him in a hug. "You don't have to apologize."

With ought a word, he returned the hug.

"Kurapika," I wrapped my arms around him tighter, tight enough so I could feel his heart beat. It was fast. I leaned my head into his shoulder and whispered, "I know who you are now."

Author's Note:

Yup. That's the chapter. I don't know what to say about...

Do you like the new cover?
And my new name?

Lol

Anyway, at the end of every chapter I usually ask my readers to tell me what you think but this time I want to ask you something a bit more.

I want to know exactly what you like about this book. Most of you say it's great but what makes it great?

And if there is anything you don't like, please don't hesitate to include it! (Unless it's a complaint about a bitchy character, then you're supposed to not like it *cough-Ashley-cough *)

I hoped you enjoyed it!

Thanks for reading!
