✿Your POV❀

The last words Kurapika said to me were "Let's go," and that was way back at the school and where we just left Ashely in shock. He walked in front of me with my hand in his slightly dragging me behind. We walked along the road in silence and the once calming scenery of nature that almost put me in a state of serenity before suddenly was drowned out by everything else that happened. The atmosphere was thick and hard to breathe in but what was I supposed to do?

Surprisingly, after all the drama, we still went shopping. Even then, not a word was spoken.

Now here in the hallways of our apartments, we stood quietly. Not a sound was exchanged and neither a glance. We were still, staring at our doors wanting to retreat into a safe place and home, but at the same time not wanting to leave because how can someone leave things the way they are like this?

Kurpika wasn't saying anything. Neither was I. The only option I found was to leave. I forced my feet to move but I was stopped as Kurpika reached out to me. Neither of us looked at each other; we were too afraid to see the scared expression on the other person's face. He finally spoke.

"We need to talk."

I let him lead me inside of his home. The walls just as bare as the last time I saw them. It's hard to think that it was only this morning since then. The atmosphere then is so different than the atmosphere now.

He put the groceries away and I stood by the door quietly.

After a short pause, he spoke once again, "Hold on, I'll be right back," and without looking back at me said in a low voice, "You don't have to stand there. Go ahead and sit down." Then he disappeared into his hallway.

I decided it was probably better to do what he said to ease the tension.

I sat down on the couch and noticed one of the bare shelves nearby. Unlike the rest of the room it was decorated by one lonely book. It wasn't very ornate but it still counted as decor. It was more decor than the rest of the apartment at least. Be side the book was a picture that lay face down.

Without a second thought, my curiosity got the best of me and I decided to flip it over and look at it. The picture was old and wrinkled and it held the scene of two boys running and playing together. I stared at the two boys in the picture. They looked so happy, and carefree. One blonde and one a brunette. Scribbled in the white margin were the words "Never Forget". I suddenly felt like I saw something I wasn't supposed to. Kurapika came back with two glasses of water in hand and stopped in his tracks. I was instantly filled with regret as I quickly placed the picture back face down. With a deep breath, he gave me the glass of water and began to speak, "Okay. I know we just met, but I think we need to talk."

I simply nodded.

He sat down across from me and in a soft low voice continued, "You said that you knew who I was?"

I nodded again. "From the first time I met you I always thought there was something familiar about you. I shook the feeling off for a while but then just now... I saw it. Then I realized who you were."

"I see. So then tell me, who am I?"

"You're Kurapika Kurta. I remember reading about you in a news article. It's a shame what happened to your family." He looked down at the carpet between us. This must have been hard for him to talk about. I knew what it was like to feel the loss of a family member, but I could never imagine losing my whole family. I looked back at the shelf where the picture lay and rested my hand on the back of it. With soft eyes I looked at Kurapika and asked,"Who is this in the picture?"

He looked at the blank side and after a bit took it and looked at the image that it held

He looked at the blank side and after a bit took it and looked at the image that it held. A twisted knot of pain lingered in his eyes. "That was my brother. He was my bestest friend."

I took a moment to absorb everything. I thought back on everything that happened over just the past two days. It was a lot. "I think I get you now. Everything that you've done. I'm no where near the beginning of understanding how you feel or you at all, but I understand why you slapped me that one day."

"I'm sorry about that again. And I guess you know now," he began to get a bit irritated. I didn't blame him. "Why I got so pissed off when you said that you've gone through some shit because of something you can't change. You think that you've have it rough because your eyes were different than others? My entire family was killed because of ours!"

I was stunned with his words. I wanted to comfort him but I didn't know how. I think it was my turn to apologize now. "I'm sorry."

He looked up at me with cold grey eyes. "What are you sorry for?"

"I'm sorry for being so insensitive, bringing up your past," I said thinking back to yesterday. "You told me before that your past was your darkest secret."

His eyes softened, now like ash. "Well then, you know everything about me. Tell me about you."

Authors' note:

Guess who's back! Back again.
It's a crappy chapter and probably not worth the almost years wait but it's better than nothing.
I also changed the name of the cat the reader owns to Mo istead of Yuki so if anyone sees Yuki that I haven't changed to Mo in previous chapter could ya help me out and tell me?
And another thing, I know the Pario isn't his actual brother but I made it that way for the sake of the book. It's an AU for a reason so just go with it.
Like the new cover?
Hope you guys enjoy.
Happy new year!
