Your POV

I entered the school with a bubbly feeling in my stomach. I can't even remember the last time I was this happy at school.

I walked in with Kurapika and we I met up with Leah. She greeted us both with her kind smile.

"Heeeyyy!" She chirped. "Have you started walking to school together now? It's only been a day and (Y/N) is already better friends with you than me." She said, feigning hurt feelings.

"Yeah, we're so close that he takes the long long journey to my apartment just to walk me to school." I said with such sarcasm. It was obvious she was aware we were neighbors. We all laughed.

After a few moments, Leah pulled me into the bathroom.

"Are you okay?" She asked sincerely. It was amazing how serious she sounded. She was talking about the beating I got yesterday. It was like she knew everything. I was so lucky to have her as my best friend.

"Yeah, don't worry I'm fine!" I said, it felt like it was the first time I said that and actually meant it.

"Okay then." She took a deep breath and then popped out a smirk. "So, how are you and Kurapika? It's seems well. Ever since you met him, you've been talking a lot more."

"Yeah, he's great to have around." I said in a small voice. My cheeks were turning a rosy pink. "He's part of the reason I'm feeling as happy I do now."

We giggled and smiled. If only feelings like this lasted for me. But they never do. But guess who's fault that is. In fact, speak of the devil...

"Awwww how sweet!" A sarcastic sneer shattered our happy atmosphere. Ashley walked in with her perfect blonde locks flowing down past her shoulders.

I felt my body tense up and knees go week.

"Has our little freak found a crush? Too bad he's never gonna like you back. You probably don't have the guts to even look at him. You're just gonna have to stalk him around like the freak you are." I felt her cold eyes staring me down. She does this just to get under my skin. "Oh wait a minute, you wouldn't be talking about Kurapika would you?"

Leah stepped in between us. "What do you want, Ashley?"

"Fuck off, Leah." Her voice instantly turned from taunting to venom in no time at all.

She turned her attention back to me. "Let's face the facts: Kurapika is never gonna like you. The only reason he is even near you is because he feel sorry for you. I mean think about it, everyone hates you, you're worthless. Why is he any different."

My heartbeat quickened. "Stop." I wanted to shout. "Don't tell me this!" I wanted to scream. But no words could escape me.

Leah spoke for me.

"Shut up! Kurapika is our friend and is actually kind hearted. Although you probably don't even know what that means."

Ashely rolled her eyes. "Typical, you're gonna let Leah fight your own battles." She flipped her hair over her shoulder. "Oh well, believe me or not. It doesn't matter, you're the one that gets hurt so I really don't care. But let me tell you one thing. I don't need you getting in my way or messing up my chances with him. So this is your final warning. Stay away from Kurpika."

With those words, she quickly sashayed away.

With her gone, I could finally release the breath I didn't realize I was holding.

"That bitch is so annoying." Leah murmured under her breath.

This week has been such a roller coaster of emotions. It started out fine but then I was scared, happy, sad, cheerful, and then I take a loop back to scared. I can only wonder where this crazy ride is gonna take me next. "We should get to class." I said, with my head down as I began to walk out the door.

I sat down in my desk for my first period algebra class. Kurapika was already there. He gave me a friend smile. Instantly, Ashley's voice echoed in my head. 'Stay away from Kurpika.' I looked away and sat down quickly.

Kurapika's POV

I was surprised when I didn't see (Y/N)'s  kind smile in return. It was like she totally ignored me.

I don't understand. I thought to myself puzzled. She was opening up to me just a second ago. Why is she shutting down all of the sudden?

Mr. Harris was giving us directions for our next assignment. I still had yet to get my text books. I looked over at (Y/N). She already had her textbook open and ready for me to share, although she still kept her distance.

Something is up with her. I thought to myself.

She was like this the entire day. She avoided eye contact and went the opposite way when we encountered each other in the hallway. It was bizarre how her behavior changed so suddenly. I thought I was able to make the shy girl I met on day one to come out of her shell, but it seems that she has just crawled further inside.

As I made my way to the roof for lunch, I saw (Y/N) heading in the same direction. She saw me and instantly turned around. I picked up my pace and pulled her back by her arm.

As we touched, this weird sensation came over me that sent chills down my spine. It was like time was stopped.

"Why are you avoiding me?" I asked directly.

She turned around and looked at me.

There was this weird feeling in the pit of my stomach that felt like it would burst depending on her answer.

Why am I so nervous all of the sudden.

She looked at me with her bright blue eye while the other one was covered with her hair. Her mouth was open, but she struggled to find the words to speak.

She pulled her hand away from me, and ran away.
