Chapter 10 - House Arrest
Don P.O.V
We were waiting outside the surgery door, waiting on word on if Mr. Stephens was going to make it or not. His wife remained inconsolable despite even her son's best effort to comfort her.
'This is all my fault,' I thought for the hundredth time. 'It was my responsibility to make sure everyone on our territory was safe but I failed. I forgot to warn my mates own family.'
'It's not your fault,' Draven told me with a deep sigh. 'It never crossed my mind that they would go to their house.'
'It was my responsibility Draven,' I told him angrily. 'What kind of alpha am I to not even warn her family that rogues were on our territory?'
'Mistakes happen,' my father told me through mind link.
'And now this mistake could cost Kayla's father his life,' I shot back at him. I would give anything to trade places with him right now. Kayla will hate me for the rest of her life because of this.
I pushed of the wall I was leaning on and I started to pace. 'What was taking the doctor so long? He should have been out already.'
'Patience Don,' my father told me.
Before Mr. Stephens was wheeled into surgery, I directed Dr. Peterson to use my blood for the transfusion since alpha blood is much stronger than regular blood or normal werewolf blood. It is said that alpha blood helps speed up the healing process of its patience but it has been 4 hours now and we are still waiting for word if he will make it.
'Alpha Don. Alpha Draven we just pulled up at the hospital,' Marcus informed me.
'Finally they are here,' I heard Draven say. I felt relief fill me at knowing they reached here safely. After hearing her dad's words before he passed out, it took everything in me to remain calm. I wanted to get on the next flight out and make sure she was ok. After my father talked me out of it by reminding me she will be on her way here, I have been restless ever since. I wanted to go meet her at the airport but when dad talked to Ash on the phone, Ash told him not to send us.
Who the hell does Ash think he is to tell my father or me not to come collect my own mate? I was fuming for a while until Draven tried to talk sense into me. 'She was on her way. She will be here soon enough.'
I smelt the scent of peaches and my body filled with apprehension. I wonder how much she has changed. I wonder how much she will hate me when she finds out what happened. I stopped pacing when the door was flung open and a red head skated to a stop. She glanced over everyone there but her eyes landed on her mother and brother who sat in front the surgery door. I knew the scent of blood was overpowering in the room so chances are she may not have gotten our scents. In a way I was glad, it gave me enough time to take her in before I had to face the fire.
'God she's gotten more beautiful,' I thought. The small skinny girl from 4 years ago was gone. In its place was a curvaceous sexy woman with waist length red hair and forest green eyes. Her blue jeans fit her like a second skin and I was jealous of her black fitted t-shirt which hugged and squeezed her full breast just how I wanted too.
"Mom?" I heard her angelic voice say hesitantly. It was filled with so much fear that it twisted my gut "Dad...?"
"Oh thank god you're here," Harry exclaimed as he left his mom side and went towards her. I watched closely for her reaction. He looked just like the rest of us. He was covered with dirt, blood, bruises and cuts. He wrapped his arms around her and held her tight. She eventually released him as she twitched her nose. I guess the scent of blood was too much for her.
