Chapter 19 – Through The Looking Glass

 Don P.O.V

I was in the study trying to get some paper work done.  I needed something to take my mind off Draven and Kayla since I knew they were out together as we speak.

What I couldn’t understand was, she wasn’t just avoiding Draven; she was avoiding me as well. I haven’t been able to talk to her in 3 days and I was worried about her. And to some extent, I was worried about Draven too since his mood swings and actions have become more erratic lately.

Yesterday, I was in the living room with Ash when Draven came in, sucked up his pride and asked for our advice. He was having just as much luck as I was in getting Kayla to talk to him since every attempt he’d made had failed miserably. In utter frustration I told him to do what he does best. He looked at me confusedly as I explained.

“Bully her,” I told him tersely. “Don’t give her a chance to say no. The more chances you give her to shoot you down the more she will shoot you down. Carry her somewhere nice, get to know her better.”

“But above all try and make amends for what happened before,” Ash piped in. “And don’t lie to her. It will get you nowhere with her. She cherishes and respects honesty above all.”

Ash then looked over at me. “Don, I don’t know how much I agree with the bullying part though. Do you really think it’s necessary?”

“Well if everything else has failed so far, why not?” I asked with raised eyebrows.

“Should I get her flowers?” Draven asked uncertainly.

“No,” I said instantly. Ash gave me an amused look. “She hates flowers.” I quickly added. “She likes tiger lilies but you can’t get her those. She will know you’ve been talking to me immediately.”

“She likes picnics and nature,” Ash said as he looked at Draven. “Maybe you could carry her somewhere quiet and peaceful."

Draven started to pace as he thought about what we’ve said. His face lit up as he stopped and exclaimed, “I’ve got it! I’ll take her to the waterfall. It’s scenic, quiet and I could carry a picnic with us. It’s perfect!”

“Where are you going?” Ash shouted as Draven made to leave the room.

“On a picnic,” Draven threw over his shoulder.

“You can’t go on a picnic now you moron,” I shouted at him sharply and shook my head. “It’ll be dark soon.”

Draven stopped in his tracks when he realized that I was right. His face then brightened again as he said aloud, “Well this just gives me more time to get everything ready. I wonder if I could find that bloody key?” he muttered as he left the room.

“Fifty bucks says he screws this up too,” I said as I looked at Ash.

“You’re on,” he said with a mischievous grin.

“And no interfering,” I told him sternly.

“Who me?” he asked innocently. He then smiled like the Cheshire cat. “I would never do that.”

I guess our advice must have worked since they've both been gone since the break of dawn. I was torn though. Part of me hoped that Draven succeed with her while the other part of me had high hopes that he crash and burn. I’ve tried telling myself that if Draven can get through to her then there is still hope for me. Maybe I have to start thinking like Draven. Apparently bullying worked. Maybe I need to take the kid gloves off a bit.

I was brought out of my thoughts when I heard a knock on the door.

“Come in,” I called as I sat up straighter in my seat and shuffled some papers in front of me. Harry and Trent came in.
