Chapter 14 - Final Warning
Don P.O.V
I felt like a nervous wreck. At 5 am, I gave up trying to sleep and decided to go for a run to burn of some of my nervous energy. I didn't work, since I now found myself dressed in blue jeans and white fitted shirt, waiting in the living room impatiently. I was half an hour early for my 'date' with Kayla and I had nothing better to do than twiddle my thumbs. I was pacing the length of the living room when I heard a voice by the door.
"You're going to wear a hole in the floor if you continue pacing like that you know," Ash said as he leaned against the door frame with his arms folded.
"What do you want Ash?" I asked irritably as I continued to pace.
'Nothing really. I've just never seen you this nervous when it comes to girl before," Ash told me as he looked at me closely. "Normally all you have to do is put on the charm and women fall at your feet. I just never thought I would see the day that the 'man-whore' actually turned into a nervous wreck by a girl."
"Screw you, Ash," I said as I glared at him. "Kayla isn't like all the other girls."
"I'm glad that you at least know that much," Ash said as he came in and took a seat on the sofa. He looked as if he didn't have a care in the world as he stretched his arms on the back of the sofa and made himself comfortable.
"So what's the plan for today?" Ash asked matter of factly.
I was saved from answering when Draven walked in. He was also dressed in blue jeans but had on a black t-shirt which fitted like a second skin.
"Oh, good morning Draven," Ash said happily as his eyes sparkled with mischief. "You've come to see Don and Kayla off on their 'date', have you? Don was just about to tell me his plans for today," I couldn't help notice how he stressed on the word 'date'.
Draven eyes turned black for a couple seconds before they turned back to their normal liquid silver.
"No actually," Draven manage to say calmly. "I was just on my way out."
"Oh," Ash asked interestedly. "Where are you going?"
"A friend of mine is leaving today," he explained. "She asked me to help her with the packing and moving."
I looked at him curiously. "Kattana's moving? Why?"
Draven shrugged his shoulders as he smiled at a memory, "She said she needed to go find her mate since he can't seem to find her here."
"Kattana?" Ash asked as his eyes turned darker and stormy. "Are you still seeing her?"
"That's none of your business," Draven told him sharply.
"Oh, it is my business," Ash said as he got up from the sofa and approached Draven. He was an inch shorter than us by he was just as built, if not more with solid muscles. When he stood face to face with Draven he continued to talk.
"It is my business because for 4 years I watched my best friend suffer in a pain on the anniversary date of the day we left home. For 4 years I've held her in my arms while she cried her heart out. Do you have any idea the kind of pain she felt at that point in time? Do you? Oh wait, of course you do," Ash said with a humorless laugh as he flicked the pendant on the chain Draven wore.
Ash shook his head before continuing. "Do you know that the first time it happened, it was so bad that she almost died?" Draven eyes filled with anguish but he remained silent. "We'd only been in Hatsville Texas a couple of months and the closest hospital was in the next town some 20 kilometers away. When we got to the hospital, I was in the emergency room with her when her heart stopped beating. It was as if she just gave up. My only thought at the time was how the hell was I going to tell her parents that their daughter was dead. Then miraculously her heart started again. The doctors were able to stabilize her and released her the next day."
