Chapter 7 - Back To Reality

4 years later...

"Yes Mrs. Henderson, that dress looks awesome on you. Your husband is going to drool," I assured her as I rang up her order.

"You sure it doesn't look too... slutty?" she asked uncertainly.

"I'm positive. You look stunning," I reassured her as I took her cash and gave her back her change and receipt. "Make sure and take lots of pictures at the wedding. You have a good day ok, Mrs. Henderson."

She took up her bags and gave me a smile. "You have a good day too, dear," she told me before she left.

This morning was kind of slow, but it was good to see Mrs. Henderson again. She was one of the Boutique's favorite customers. She was in her early forties and married to the man of her dreams. They had no children though but they loved each other unconditionally. Mrs. Henderson had a thing for sexy clothing and even for her age she had the body and looks to pull it off. I hope one day she doesn't give that man a cardiac arrest.

"Mrs. Henderson left already," my boss and good friend Bridget Clarke asked as she came in from the back room.

"Yeah she did," I told her happily. "She bought the little red dress you brought back on your last shopping trip."

"The one with the beaded waist?" she asked distractedly as she went through some papers by the cash register.

"Yeah, that's the one," I said with a sigh.

I liked that dress. I wanted it for myself but then I realised I didn't have anywhere to go with it. I sighed again as I focused on Bridget and her search.

"What are you looking for?" I asked  curiously.

"Oh some damn receipts for the shoes I brought in yesterday. I can't find them anywhere," she said in disgust. Her blond hair was tied up in a messy bun at the back of her head and her bangs fell over and hid her baby blue eyes.

"You mean the receipts which are in your drawer under the account books," I hinted.

Bridget could never remember where she placed stuff. When I first started working for her some 3 years ago, her books and stockroom were a mess. I was amazed that she actually kept her business afloat.

But gradually I started helping her out and we got to know one another and became good friends. Now, she practically leaves me to run her store while she goes out and source  merchandise.

She opened her drawer and rummaged through it.

"Ah ha!" she said as she pulled out the receipts. "What will I ever do without you?" she asked as she gave me a smile.

I just shook my head at her and grabbed my jacket.

"Hey Bridget, I'm just going to the General Store to get some stuff from by Old Man Bart's before he closes."

"Oh, go ahead and take your time," Bridget said waving her hand dismissively. "The place is kind of quiet today so I think we will be closing up early anyways."

"You sure about that?" I asked  uncertainly. "I mean I could stay and -"

She quickly shook her head and waved me off again. "Hunny, go! I will see you tomorrow."
