Chapter 16 - Banishment

Draven P.O.V

I had just knocked on Kattana's door and she opened it with a huge smile on her face. She was in jeans shorts and a tank top which matched her blue eyes.

"Finally, you're here," she said as she grabbed my hand and pulled me inside. Her living room was a chaotic mess and boxes were scattered everywhere.

"Are you carrying all of these?" I asked her as surveyed the room with a critical eye. "They aren't going to fit in your pick up."

"No," she sighed. "I intend to put most of these in storage for the time being. There are only a couple boxes I want to carry with me. As you can see I haven't completed packing yet and I greatly appreciate you helping me out."

"Just tell me where you want me to start," I told her as I approached an open box and looked inside.

"Have you eaten breakfast as yet?" Kat asked from by the kitchen door. "If you haven't I could make a sandwich for you before you start."

My stomach chose that moment to grumble loudly. Kattana heard it from across the room and laughed as she went into the kitchen. "I'll take that as a no then."

I followed behind her and saw that the kitchen was also littered with boxes in various stages of being filled. She pulled out a loaf of bread and the fixings for a ham sandwich as I took a seat on the stool by the kitchen counter.

"Are you sure you will finish pack by today?" I asked her skeptically.

"I am determined to finish today," she told me as she placed the sandwich in front of me. "It looks bad but it's not really. I've already packed the stuff I want to carry with me. So the rest can just be thrown into boxes. When I've settled down then I would come collect these."

I finished off the sandwich quickly and handed her the empty plate.

"So I've heard a rumor that Kayla's back in town," Kattana threw over her shoulder as she washed my empty plate.

"Then you've heard correctly," I told her as a smile tugged at the corner of my mouth. My smile disappeared as I remember she is currently on a date with my brother.

"How are things between you and her?" she asked curiously. "Are things working out?" she asked as she took a seat opposite me.

"Right now it's too early to tell," I told her as I sighed. "She is currently on a date with Don."

"Don?" she asked in surprise. "Why?"

"Well as you know, she is both our mate," I explained. "And you know about the rogue attack which took place the day before yesterday. What you don't know is that Kayla and her family is staying with us at the main house. Yesterday started badly with Don and I getting into a fight over Kayla so we decided to let Kayla decide who she wants to be with. Don gets to go out on the first date with her."

"How are you taking it?" Kattana asked with sympathy.

"Besides the fact that I want to kill my own brother, I'm great," I told her sarcastically.

Kattana placed her hand over mines on the counter. "She'll come around," she said softy. "She just needs time."

"I know," I said as I sighed again. I then decided to change the subject. "So where is Patrick? How come he isn't here helping you pack and I am?"

After I ended things with Kattana 4 years ago she hooked up with a guy name Patrick and they have been together ever since.

"He didn't take the news that I am leaving very well," she said sadly. "Hence the reason you're here and he isn't. I haven't seen him for the past couple days. Not since I told him I was leaving."
