Chapter 24:

I slipped into my long silver dress and matching heels. The dress was one-shoulder and had a slit down the left leg. I had already applied my makeup and fixed my hair so I was ready to head down to the cocktail party.

I had spent all week trying to get Charlotte to talk to me which was a complete waste of time. To make things worse, she came home from her date with Zayn without a rose, which made her hate me even more. It wasn’t my fault.

Although I had made no progress with Charlotte, I had made some advancement with Savannah and Ashley who had been avoiding me like every other girl in the house. They came up to me yesterday at lunch and offered for me to sit with them. I accepted, but they let me know that they thought I had been a total jerk. I guess that’s fair.

I held my dress up so I wouldn’t slip down the stairs as I made my way to the cocktail party. Most of the girls were already there, so nobody really noticed me enter the room.

I would have gone over and talked with Liam or Harry but they were both in conversations with members of Belle’s posse. Eugh. I felt a tap on my shoulder and I wondered who that would be since it wasn’t Harry or Liam. I spun around. It was Serena.

“I was wondering if we could talk for a minute?” she said.

Um—what?

“Okay, sure.” I said. Of all the people who weren’t talking to me in the house, why does Serena want to talk to me? Probably to tell me everything that Belle’s already told me about how I don’t deserve to be here and how I’m basically a manipulative bitch.

I followed her to the stairs where she sat and I then squeezed onto the same step as her.

“I just wanted to tell you that I feel bad that everybody’s ignoring you. I don’t care if you’ve gotten a rose on every date, it’s because the guys like you, not because you’re manipulative or whatever. And I understand why you yelled at Charlotte, and I would have done the same thing. I hate Belle, well, pretty much everyone does except her groupies.”

“Oh, thanks.” I said.

“I know you didn’t like me at the beginning of the show, but it would be cool if we could be friends. I’m not all bad I promise,” she grinned widely at me. I felt bad that had judged her from the start because of the way she dressed, but I hadn’t really ever talked to her until now. I wasn’t expecting her to be so nice.

“Yeah, that’d be cool.” I agreed. We shook hands which I guess was a sign of our friendship, and rejoined the others in the living room.

She went back with her other friends so I guess I should probably go find Savannah, Emma and Ashley. I found them over by the fountain with Charlotte. I approached them with the fear that I might get slapped in the face or worse.
