The phone vibrating on the table had dragged me from my thoughts.
I had been thinking about what the future held for Amelia and I. Glancing down at the phone, I saw a text from Herrmann,  and I unlock my phone,  reading the text, Herrmann informs me that he has spoken with the chief, and he would love to meet with me and discuss the position of PIC.

He also text me the address of the fire house, which made me see that this was a great opportunity.

once I had changed into my jeans and a comfortable, yet presentable top, I headed out to my car, entering the address into my sat nav before pulling out of the drive way carefully.

It took me around twenty minutes before I arrived at the firehouse, I would have most likely arrived sooner if I had been more familiar with the road layouts and the area.
As soon as I stepped out the car, the building I saw in front of me, it amazed me.

I walked up the drive way, and as I approach the garage area where the trucks are parked, I notice how different the layout inside is. The garage area alone was bigger than the ambulance station I previously worked at, and I worked in one of the busiest districts in all of London.

I spotted three fire engines, one ambulance and one smaller car, and they all looked to be in great condition. The emergency services in this city clearly had a great budget as opposed to London which had budget cuts on a monthly basis.

I notice a table in the corner, across the other side of the garage that was occupied by men, and as I had no idea where I was going, and quite clearly needed some guidance.

Sitting st the table with my team, we all eyed each other as we were engrossed in a serious game of cards.

"Who is that hot chick? Three o'clock." Capp says and I casually lift my head, and notice she's approaching us.

"Hey, can I help you?" I ask her, I didn't recognise her from Molly's or any recent call outs.

"Actually, yes, you could. Sorry to interrupt, but I'm looking for Christopher Herrmann, he gave me an address, and I'm certain I'm in the right place." The woman says, and her accent is different, a British accent.

"Hey, you guys seen Herrmann?" I ask my team, and they shrug.

"He's most likely in the common room, I could take you there if you like." Capp says and I shoot him a glare.

A loud voice erupts from the other side of the garage, and we all turn our heads towards him.

"Well look who we have here." Herrmann calls out.

The lady turns to face us again. "Looks like he found me, but thank you anyway." She walks towards a Herrmann who engulfs her into a hug.

"Hey Len, its great to see you again." He says before walking her away to the lounge.

"Did he just call her Len? Isn't that a guy's name?" Capp asks, and Newhouse shrugs.

"She's hot, and she's got an accent. Girls with accents are always ten times hotter, so the accent makes up for the weird name." Newhouse states.

"How would Herrmann know a hot, British chick?" Capp fires another question. Although it was a fair question, I couldn't resist rolling my eyes, groaning internally, Capp wouldn't be able to act any less desperate, even if he tried.

"Capp, just shut up and play the damn card game." I say, throwing down my cards, laughing as I got up from my seat, winning once again.

Herrmann escorted me to the chief's office, where I sat and had a long talk with the chief. Luckily, there weren't any call outs.

He told me the basics about the department, and explained the different ranks within the department and within firehouses. He also told me about the different stages of disciplinary action. He told me about the shifts they work here at the fire house which were different to back at home, I usually only worked day shifts, however, if I were to take a job at fifty one, I'd work a twenty four shift, but then have forty eight hours off.

I bit my lip, obviously, that would upset the routine that Amelia and I had put in place, but we could easily work something out and make a new one. Amelia was excited about moving to Chicago, and it was all about change for both of us, we needed a clean break.

Soon, the tables turned and the chief began to ask about my personal life, and about Britain.

"I'm a single parent, I have a daughter, Amelia. She is four years old and she never fails to make me smile. She tends to light up which ever room she walks into, and that's just one of her amazing qualities." A smile appears on my face as I think of Amelia.

"So Len, tell me why I should give you a chance as our new PIC?" The chief asks, and I take a deep breath, pausing for a moment or two.

"Because I've never been given one, not one as important as this. I'm good at my job, amazing at my job, and for the past two years, I've been tossed aside and I've never had the correct environment to show everyone my potential. This is my time to show you how good I really I am. I can assure you Chief that I won't let you down or disappoint you. I'm not just doing this for me, I'm doing this for my daughter, I want her to see that if you set your mind to something, you can actually do it."

I lean back in the chair, and the chief has a smile on his face. At this point, I'm not sure what to think, but I'm hoping I impressed him, and I hoping he will give me the position of PIC, because now that I'm in fire house fifty one, I realise how bad I really want this job.
