Chapter Six Part One

I held Amelia's hand in mine as we walked up the road towards the hospital. When I was delivering a patient to med, one of the doctor's told me about the marathon, and I decided to go along.
Amelia wanted me to run it, so we compromised and I told her I'd take her along to watch.

I notice Burgess is under one of the gazebos, and is struggling to set up so,e equipment.

"Hey, Kim." I call out and walk over to her.
"Would you like some help?" I ask, and she looks at the equipment.
"I have no idea what I'm doing." She laughs, and I shrug.
"Neither do I, but I can try." I say and between the two of us, we manage to assemble the poster stand.

I turn and see Amelia is engaging in a conversation with another little girl.
"Is she with you?" I ask and Kim nods.
"That's my niece, Sarah." I look back towards Kim, and smile.
"She's cute." I state, and step back from the poster.

"Hey Mum, can I go with Sarah? They are giving out baloons and lollipops inside the hospital!." Amelia asks.

I glance at Kim for a minute, and then smile.
"If you promise to stay with Sarah, and not go wandering." I tell her.
She nods, and before she goes, I kiss her cheek. "Be careful, I love you."
Amelia smiles, before running off.
I watch as they make their way inside the hospital.
I chat with Kim, before informing her that I'm going to find Amelia and Sarah. As I walk along the road, suddenly, there's a loud bang, and I'm knocked off my feet.

The loud ringing noise that is blaring in my ears is what forced me to open my eyes, I lift my neck slowly, looking left and right. What I see before my eyes, it makes me feel like I'm in a horror film. I scramble to my feet, and see people all around me, lying on the floor, whimpering in pain. My eye sight goes blurry from getting up too quickly. I blink numerous times before I see Kim, and she's calling my name.

I feel her hands on my shoulder, and she repeatedly ask me if she's okay.

I look at her blankly, before snapping out of the trans I'm stuck in.

"Uh, yeah, I'm fine." I say, nodding, and I decide to ignore the pain I feel down the side of my face.

I look around, and Kim begins to help people up.

"Let's use the tents as Triage." I say, and bend down to feel a woman's pulse. I shake my head, sighing.

"Okay, everybody! If you can walk, help others and move yourselves to that ten over there!" Kim shouts.

I turn around, and hear the sirens, but then I run over to Kim, grabbing her arm.

"Amelia and Sarah went inside!" I say, and begin to panic.

Kim looks up, and bites her lip, worry plastered all over my face.

"I'll go and look for them." I state, quickly running out of the tent.

"Amelia! Sarah!" I shout, looking back the hospital which is in ruins, rubble everywhere.

I turn, around, eyeing the crowds, in case they had come back outside, and they were safe.

I shout their names over and over, hoping, praying that one of them will respond, or call out.

I see Truck 81 and Squad 3 pull up, with the Ambo just behind. I watch as everyone jumps out of the trucks.

"Len!" Kelly shouts, I walk over, tears in my eyes.

"Are you okay?" He asks me, and i shrug, not knowing what the hell is going on.
"I''m not hurt, I was only knocked over by the blast, but I can't find Amelia anywhere. She went inside with Sarah, Kim's niece. I don't know where exactly they went." I say and bite my lip.

"Amelia is in there?" He says and looks back at the chief.

"What happened?" The chief asks me.
"There was an explosion, there must have been, the blast was huge, the tent over there, the only one that is still standing, we've set that up as triage."

The chief nods, and bites his lip.
"Okay, get to work." He yells.
"We'll get her Len." Kelly Tells me before giving orders to his men.

The chief pulls me aside, and tells me I can either go and get my head checked out, or help over in triage.

"You have to come and tell me if you find Amelia." I state and the chief promises to keep me updated.

I walk back to triage, my emotions all over the place. I should be looking for my daughter, not in triage. I need to find Sarah and Amelia.

SEVERIDE

I jumped out of the truck as soon as it came to a stop. I take a deep breath as I notice how bad the situation is. The hospital was in pieces. As I took a look around, I saw Len.

"Len!" I shout, and move towards her. I look her over, there's a deep cut on the side of her face and blood smeared all around her face. Her eyes are full with tears that threaten to spill. She looks distraught and worried.

"Are you okay?" I ask her.
She shrugs and looks helpless.
"I'm not hurt, I was only knocked over from the blast. But I can't find Amelia anywhere!" She says and the worry on her face.
"She went inside with Sarah, Kim's niece. I don't know where exactly they went."  She says and bites her lip.

"Amelia is in there?" I say and looks back at the chief.

I had to find her, Amelia was Len's pride and joy, I also adored her.

Len talks to the chief briefly, before I call out to her.

"We'll get her Len." I say before barking orders at everyone.
