There was a few hours left until shift started, and I planned on doing something with Amelia, we hadn't spent much time together recently.
I lay on my bed, and hear my phone vibrate, reaching over and unlock it to see a message from Kelly.
I frown as I read it.
'What are you doing today?' It reads.
'I planned on doing something with Amelia, however I have no idea what. Any suggestions?' I reply.
Once my message has delivered, I see he's read it almost immediately.
'You weren't at Molly's last night. Just checking in. I have an idea though.' My phone buzzes again and I read the text, a smile on my face.
"Amelia, get dressed." I call out and smile.
I climb out of my bed, and stretch a little before I open my wardrobe, and grab a pair of jeans and my old university sweater.
I pull them on before heading downstairs.
"Hey, get dressed. We're going to go out in a bit." I tell Amelia. She smiles and then runs past me up the stairs.
I put the kettle onto boil and I grab a mug from the cupboard, and drop a tea bag into it before pouring on the water.
The door bell rings and I move towards the door.
I open the door, and see Kelly.
"How did you know where I live?" I ask and Kelly smiles.
"I asked Sylvie."
I open the door, allowing him into my house.
"Fancy place." Kelly comments, shutting the door behind him.
"Thanks, do you want a drink?" I ask him and he nods.
"Don't worry, I won't force you to drink tea. I have got coffee." I say as I turn on my coffee machine.
"Kelly!" I hear Amelia's voice call out, and she runs towards him.
A smile appears on his face and he lifts Amelia up, and she hugs him.
"Hey." He says, laughing.
"How many fires did you put out at work the other day?" She asks.
"Not many. We did to perform a water rescue though."
Amelia's face lights up with excitement, and questions Kelly about it.
After she has quizzed Kelly about every last detail of the water rescue, she asked him another question.
"Will you help me?" Amelia says to him.
Kelly smiles and places Amelia down in the chair in between mine and his.
"How can I help you?" He asks Amelia.
I place the mug of coffee down in front of Kelly, before taking the seat opposite him.
"Tell mum to let me play hockey with Luke and his team." She pours and I shake my head.
"I never said no." I tell her, taking a sip of my tea.
"You didn't say yes either." I laugh, she was kinda clever for a four year old.
"Mum even played hockey." Amelia says to Kelly.
"Okay, yes, correct. I did play hockey. But I played field hockey. You'd never catch me on an ice rink, I'd be like Bambi." I say.
"Besides you can't even ice skate." I add.
