I knew my mother had come when I heard a shriek and a big thump. I ran over to her, I hadn't cleaned up the bubbles on the floor in time and apparently they still had soap in them, therefore making the floor slippery.
She yelled at me for being irresponsible and doing a bad job with my chores. Then she and I started laughing because it was hilarious. We spent the day at the mall looking for cheap deals on good clothes.
When we were going in to the car she said,
"I'm sorry I haven't been around much but money has been tight these days and I am trying to pick up shifts and get my degree at the same time. And sometimes it feels like there just aren't enough hours in a day."
"Mom I get it, besides I have been fine and there is someone I want you to meet." I said, I didn't want my mom to get the wrong ideas about Jason and me sneaking around so I thought that introducing him first before we started dating would be the proper thing to do. It probably would have been a good idea for me to ask Jason if he was okay with it first, but then again he didn't ask to bite me.
"Invite them over for dinner, we can spend time together cooking, it will be great bonding time plus you can tell me all about them."
Can you come over for dinner? I texted.
What time? He replied a few minutes later.
Six PLEASE come on time. It took him a few seconds to reply this time.
Just for you
I grunted.
"What do you think we should make honey?" She asked kindly
So kindly I almost felt bad about hiding things from her.
My favorite food was basically everything on the menu at taco bell. Everything my mom is horrible at cooking. I decided that lasagna was the best way to go; there aren't many places to go wrong, it was just layer, sauce, cheese, and layer. Well pretty much anyway.
We headed home and then started to cook. I had to tell my mom how to do everything. She is one those people that can mess things up completely if not given detailed instructions. When we were done and the lasagna was baking in the oven, we cleaned the kitchen and made the dining room look really nice.
My mother didn't know that Jason was in our house this morning so he already knew exactly what our house looked like on a normal basis. She also didn't know that we had a sleepover last night and I was hoping she would never find out.
My mother didn't even ask much about Jason while we were cooking. It was 5:45; if Jason was on time then we had about 15 minutes to get ready. My mother and I usually didn't entertain guests, so we weren't sure what to do. We tried to Google it but it was hopeless, we didn't even know what to wear. I just picked up a sweater dress and paired it with some black flats. The dress was convenient because it covered up that horrendous bite mark, I certainly didn't want my mother asking questions about how I got it and where I got it from over dinner.
I wanted to call Matisse and ask her for advice but I wasn't looking forward to having a pack of wolves literally, storm into my family dinner. I also knew that, me interacting positively and being friendly with Jason again definitely was not what the pack wanted me to do when they put me under their protection.
The doorbell rang, he was early. This was a surprise to me because whenever my mother or I go somewhere we are always late. I walked to answer the door trying to seem poised and mature, though my efforts were thwarted when I tripped over a non-existent foot. Of course due to the fact that I was part ninja I was able to skillfully avoid falling on my face.
