October's POV
Serpine was late. He's normally on time. The same time everyday. The leather bounds were slightly rotted and scuffed, but still strong enough to hold me in. The slab that they attached me to, was cold. Cold and hard. Freezing and solid. It wasn't nice at all. My long, wavy black hair, matted and dirty, unwashed for what felt like years. My collarbones, hipbones and ribs were so prominent that I may as well be a skeleton.

Hours later and he still hadn't arrived. It was starting to get colder. When will the painful experiments and the torturous injections continue? Where was he? When was the last time that he'd been here?

And at that moment I realised that it had been more than a week, a few months maybe. I don't know. The centuries of starvation were getting the best of me. Why can I not go back a few hundred years, to before the war, to when I was younger and my mother and my father were alive and well and happy? Why did Mevolent and Serpine and Vengeous and Lord Vile have to ruin everything?

China Sorrow's POV
I have received some information that Skulduggery would value. According to some of my contacts, a girl, fitting the description of Skulduggery's daughter October, has been found in one of Serpine's hideouts.

Skulduggery, Tanith and Valkyrie are on their way here, for the information. Skulduggery does not know that this is about his daughter. I think it's better to not tell him until he arrives so that, in anger and desperation, he crashes his car and kills someone. He's known for his anger.

3rd Person
Skulduggery, Valkyrie and Tanith got into Skulduggery's car. His car was a 1954 Bentley R-Type Continental. One of the 208 ever made. They drove to the larger building that Chins's library was and Skulduggery walked in, ignoring the thin man in a bow tie. They walked in silence to China.

Valkyrie didn't like when Skulduggery went quiet. It never usually was a good sign. They way his long strides rushed to see the librarian, she knew that this is highly serious. The last time Skulduggery was like this was when something drastic happened with Serpine. Something that could of ended the lives of the entire human race. Valkyrie really didn't like when Skulduggery went quiet.

"Speak." Said Skulduggery urgently.

"One of my contacts," China begun, "reports that a girl, the exact description of October has been found in one of Serpine's old hideouts."

China was wearing an emerald green skirt and a crisp, white blouse.

"Impossible." Skulduggery said with a hint of sadness in his velvety voice. "October was killed in the war."

"If you can remember, only you and the Dead Men knew her reflection and her apart. There was a distance between you. And her supposed death was quick. Maybe, just maybe, shes actually alive." China says softly. No sarcastic comments were made. No jokes. Nothing.

Valkyrie was confused, as was Tanith. Who was October?

China gave Skulduggery an address and he stormed out of there, Tanith and Valkyrie following him. They all entered the Bentley and Skulduggery sped away.

Thoughts were battling each other in their heads. Tanith and Valkyrie were wondering on who this mysterious October was, and Skulduggery hoped to God that his daughter was alive.

The beautiful, black Bentley sped through miles and miles and miles of trees, bendy roads, and narrow dirt roads until they reached an abandoned, old building. Skulduggery pressed the brake and the car skidded to a stop. He got out of the car and he ordered, "Tanith, first floor. Val, ground floor and I'm in the basement." No one questioned him. They listened and went to search for a girl.

Tanith walked cautiously to the first floor. The floorboards creaked as she searched every inch of the place. There were rotting desks and paper, chairs either had fallen or they were knocked over in a hurry, and it smelled. The odour was putrid. It smelled like death and decaying. The damp wood gave off an unusual unpleasant smell as well.

Valkyrie stayed in the ground floor. It was empty apart from a rotting desk, a chair and papers. There was a briefcase on the desk. It's faded black leather had moss growing on it. She opened it and a spider crawled from it. She squealed and flung it away. It's insides splattered onto the wall. She had flung it with a force. She didn't like spiders. Apart from the spiderwebs, the briefcase held vials of liquid. There was a clear one, a red one and a green one. Valkyrie took it and waited outside for Skulduggery with Tanith.
