October shoots twin streams of bright red energy at the Baron. She would properly target him last. She had to keep him at bay while she took on the man clad in black. She didn't want to be ruptured by the Baron's yellow eyes. The man in black stares down on her. He had a deep, ugly scar across his face. She could see the darkness inside his eyes. He was a vampire.

"What are you doing helping Baron? He'll use you then kill you. He always had a habit of doing that." October said.

"I'm being paid a decent amount." The vampire said, "The name's Dusk."

"I don't need to know your name." She said.

"Well, I thought you'd want to know the name of the person that's going to kill you." Dusk says, taking a step forward.

"The name's October, and you're not going to kill me."

"Too bad. It's night." He says pointing at a skylight.

"Damn," October mutters as Dusk tears his clothes and skin off in one graceful motion. October wastes no time in throwing fireballs and streams of energy into the monster. It yelps but dives onto her. She glimpses the Baron run away with the man in the suit limping behind. She hated vampires. They had a habit of not cooperating. Its bony white self landed on top of her and tried to rip out her throat with its long, jagged tusks of teeth. It was heavy on her chest. She pushed at the air but as soon as it was off it was back on again. She pushed at the air again, harder this time, and managed to shoot it with a stream of energy. She was getting tired. She glanced at the skin it had shed and saw a clear liquid in a syringe. She grabbed it with the air and injected it into the vampire when it lunged at her. It roared and screamed and writhed and yelped. It collapsed onto the floor and didn't get up.

The floor rumbled and she walked away from the unconscious vampire as the man in the suit poked his head from the ground. He saw that Dusk was unconscious and he picked his skin and the vampire up, turning to October.

"Thanks, pretty lady," He said in a southern American drawl, "Baron's gonna be happy when he sees you've knocked the vamp out. By the way, I'm Billy-Ray and watch your back."

She watches him disappear into the ground and when she's sure that he's gone she helps everyone to Kenspeckle so he can help them. She sits quietly until she hears Tanith stir and wake up. She looks around and winces when she lifts her arm up. Its bandaged and bruising is visible from the top of it. October gets her a drink and she starts to feel dizzy. After so long of using no magic, she finally uses too much of it. She sits on the bed next to an unmoving Skulduggery and he pulls her close.

"I thought you were unconscious." She says to her father.

"I'm dead. Its not possible." He says.

"Oh,"

"Are you okay though?" He asks. "You were up against a psychopathic hitman, Baron Vengeous and Dusk all at the same time. It was very unlikely that you would have survived. And yet you did. I'm very proud of you."

"Thanks, dad. The vampire was the worst though, honestly."

"What about Sanguine?" Tanith asks.

"Pretty easy."

"Well, he isn't the best fighter. I meant how did he treat you? Did he say anything?" She asks October.

"Well, he did call me 'pretty lady'. That's it really."

"I'm going to kill him." Skulduggery says.

Tanith laughs at Skulduggery's reaction. A quiet giggle comes from the corner bed, the one where Valkyrie lays. October went to get her a drink, as well as everyone else as they all had woken up, while Kenspeckle looked everyone over and scolded Skulduggery for putting Valkyrie in danger once again.

October gives everyone drinks and sits down next to Skulduggery again. "What's going to happen now?" She asks.

"We save the world from whatever they are doing." Ravel replies.

"And how exactly do we do that?" Tanith asks.

"We find out what they are doing, then we save the world." Saracen replies.

"Its not going to be that simple isn't it?" October asks.

"It never is." Ghastly replies.
