Onyx felt an unusual peaceful sensation this morning, as he watched the sun rising. But, somewhere, deep within his conscious, he knew that things would never be the same ever again. He realized that by now Song knew who and what he was, the son of the Guardian Gatekeepers. Destiny had finally summoned him. Suddenly, Onyx heard soft knocking on the door. Who could it be this early, I'm not a fan of early guests. He cautiously opened it and was quite surprised to see Song Valor.

"You should come in quickly." He ordered. Song obeyed and swiftly entered the house. "What's up? What brings you here this early?" He groaned.

His question almost caught her off guard, mainly because he seemed like himself. "I know who you are, for real this time."

"Song, I never wanted to make you feel like I didn't trust you," Onyx started.

"Well, you did a great job of making me feel like trash. You have no idea, how it felt to be this close to you and never know who you are." Song flopped on his couch, Onyx sat beside her, feeling guilty. Song grabbed his left hand and pointed to his tattooed finger, "The code to your house?"

"Song stop, for your annoying information, it is the code to my house." Onyx argued.

"Whatever."

Onyx looked at Song's neck and saw a familiar golden arrow pendant. Somewhat confused and surprised he asked, "Do you know who you are?"

"My mother's daughter." She replied before she stood up.

"I'm sorry, Song, just know that I didn't ask for this, and if I could change everything I would."

"Why didn't you just tell me?" She quietly asked.

"I wanted to, things just happened so fast. I've been struggling to adjust to everything myself. When we all had our parents things were so different. The Shadows weren't so aggressive. Then things started happening and they never calmed down. Bliss' parents, Kai's parents, and your mother died. Then my parents started leaving for long periods of time. The first few times I didn't think much of it. Then one time they were gone for like a year and came back with a small baby, my sister. They fought so hard to hide us and protect us. And when they were gone, I had to protect us. I can't take risks with her life. Not now, not ever. Children and bloodlines are highly valued in the SSS. Family defines you in this society, not having a family is not an option. They gave everything they had to protect us." Onyx grabbed her hand.

Song looked at him quite puzzled. Onyx led her through the hallway into a small light purple room. A young girl lay on the bed asleep. Song walked up to her and took one look at her face. She strongly resembled the woman in the picture at the SSS and she smiled.

"I understand family is everything to me too, we are who are because of them. I understand, you know that I do. My father and I will run to the ends of the earth for each other. If I knew earlier, you know that I would have supported you. That's all I want, for you all to know that I'm always ready to have your back. And I want you guys to trust that I'll have your back."

"Song, I know that you'll have my back. You're true and faithful and I admire that. Your mother would be proud of you. Just know that when you need me, I'll have your back too."

Song smiled, "Well, I'll be on my way." As she went to leave, his strong hand grabbed her.

"I trust you with my life and every sacrifice you made on my behalf, did not go in vain." Onyx said looking her straight in her amber eyes.

Smiling she said, "Thank you, that's good to know." As Song left, Onyx closed the door behind her. He felt bad for her, to never know what happened to her mother, to feel the pressures of being a Shadowhunter, and to watch her team lose a member at such a critical time. But Onyx knew that Song would survive, because she was the strongest woman he knew. Onyx prayed that destiny would never dare pull them apart. He could not turn his back on his destiny, the dangerous job of the Guardian. And he knew that she would never turn her back on hers. It was great seeing her again, but he also knew that she needed to be careful coming near him. The Shadows want to find him, but when they do, he'll be ready.
Onyx has been training relentlessly, and now he's getting stronger. His mind war tactics are getting sharper. His body is getting stronger, along with his fighting, endurance, stamina. So, when they find him, he will make them pay. "If only they could see me now," he said to himself, reminiscing on the time spent with his parents.

Song felt satisfied as she left Onyx's house. Along with a sense of relief that they were still friends, she felt sadness. Team Liberate just wasn't the same without him. Even though there was a period of time when she questioned his trust, Song still trusted Onyx to make the best decision for the circumstance. She was beyond relieved in knowing that he never betrayed her. Now, she understood Onyx wasn't just making choices for himself, but for the safety of his younger sister and that was honorable. She prayed that Onyx would be blessed with the strength to be victorious. A thought emerged in her mind, there was something in the way he asked if she knew who she was that made Song feel as if he knew about her mother the whole time. She wanted to ask him about it, but decided that she wasn't ready for that, and needed to stay focused on the task at hand.

Reflecting on the difficulties of being a pro Shadowhunter, Song wondered how hard it must have been for Onyx to keep so many secrets. She understood because it was hard for her to bear several secrets at once. In the midst of all of this confusion, Song found a new respect for Onyx, she had always admired him, but now he was evolving into something else. He did well, being young and having to manage on his own for stretches of time. Thinking of these things as she walked home, Song wondered how Onyx felt about her, what had she been to him for all of those years? Hopefully, Onyx felt like she was likened to a sister. Growing up they were quite close, even as their parents relationship became strained, they were always close. Then they met Kai and Bliss and they became a family. Their callings, have summoned them in two different directions with blurry futures for both. Song had shook those thoughts from her head, as she approached her doorstep. She was just happy to know that she would always have Onyx's friendship. And Song wished the best for the Guardian's son. I hope that his path treats him well, and that someday, we can be Team Liberate again.

She wondered about her mother's position in the SSS, from what Creed told heer, her mother helped Onyx's parents become the Guardians of the Gate. She wondered so many things about her mother. She closed her eyes again, and remembered her brown eyes again. Song focused and held the image of her mother's smiling face for several minutes. Then she remembered her younger self, wrapped in blankets at bedtime. Her mother placed her lips on her forehead, then would whisper "I love you" in her ear, before turning the light out. Song opened her eyes and sighed, "I love you too."
