She reflected that even though thinking of her mother was a tear jerking process, there was always relief afterwards. The sensation of having been loved by her was so powerful, it gave her strength. Upon getting home, there stood Kai waiting outside. Song was a little surprised. "Come on in, Kai." As soon as she opened the door, he brushed past and plopped on the couch throwing his feet up on the mahogany coffee table. "So you're here because...?"
"A friend talking to a friend, or is that a crime?" Kai joked.
"If it was, I would have arrested you at the door." Song smiled.
Kai laughed, "Okay undercover cop, but I thought we should talk about last night slash this morning kinda and Onyx ."

"Well, I talked to Onyx and I think we're straight. Like I said before, if we need him, he'll be there, but he really does have some family matters that are going on. If you want the nitty gritty, you need to go and talk to him, because,"

"It's not your place to say, I know," Kai smiled, "but I'll go and talk to him. Like I said, he's like a brother to me. If he's going through things I want to know how I can help him out. He's the only brother I have. And you're like my sister. I don't know what I would do without you guys."
Song sighed, "I know, I feel the same way. I understand that he's doing what he needs to do. When destiny calls, who are we not to answer?"
"You've got a point there, well what did you think about the SSS?"

"It's interesting, they're so organized, and they have what seems like hundreds of years of research at their disposal."

"Yeah, no wonder Free and Creed have some serious skills when it comes to hunting. Speaking of hunting, I'm about to go and see if there are some Shadows out and about. I'll be coming by later to talk to your dad about some things," Kai stood up and stretched.

"Okay sounds good, be careful. I'll be out hunting in a bit, but I have something on my mind that I need to sort out."

"Alright, well I'll be seeing you," Kai winked his caramel eye and smiled as he walked out of the door.
Song closed the door behind him and laid her forehead against the door, only to feel another set of knocks vibrating against her forehead. She opened the door quickly to get rid of the vibration only to see Creed.
"That face, what a welcome," he said as he brushed past her, "I happened to be doing what I do best, and saw Kai leaving. So what's up?" He paused, "You look like you have something on your mind."

"I'm trying to sort it all out," she replied after closing the door.
"So what's wrong?"
"I don't know, a lot of things! I want to hold on to Team Liberate, but it's not the same without Onyx." Song explained.

"It seems like Onyx will be coming back to the SSS, but that's not a bad thing. We need a Guardian, it might slow some of the Shadows down." Creed shrugged his shoulders

"That's the other thing, everyone keeps saying slow down, slow down. One Shadow is too much. One person infected can infect many more. So why can't we think about closing the Gate and the Guardians keeping it closed? We achieve what we think, what we put our minds to. If we only think of slowing them down will we ever think of closing it?"
"We can't close it if we don't even know how to slow them down! Don't you see that? The SSS has spent years and many people have died just so that we can slow the Shadows down!" Creed frowned, getting pretty irritated.

"Why are you overreacting? I'm not saying the SSS has not been doing a good job. I'm just saying slowing them down is a reactive thought, but closing the Gate may help us be proactive." Song explained, hoping to calm him down a bit. But Creed didn't say anything. "Is something wrong?"

"Yeah, and I'm leaving," he stood up.

"What has gotten into you? I didn't mean to offend you, but if you don't tell me what's wrong - what I did wrong, I can't do anything about it."

Creed had his back turned to Song, "Well you can't do anything about this, so I don't really see the point in telling you," he said shaking his head while walking to the door. And that was it, he just left.

Song didn't move, she wasn't really sure what just happened. If she said something wrong she had just apologized. She sat there all alone, if she said something that hurt him, which she couldn't recall, him walking away hurt her too. Any other day, she would have called after him. Any other day, she could have convinced herself that she was fearless, but not now. Everything she did and fought for was stemmed in avoiding loneliness. She hated being alone. Maybe it's just me. Song thought to herself. Is Creed mad at me? She couldn't really tell. It wasn't her intention to offend him. But, something in her mind kept telling her, that whatever just happened wasn't just her. Something was going on with Creed, but there really isn't anything she could do if he wouldn't talk to her.
Song sat still for several minutes, allowing her mind to process what had just happened. She knew that this was not really in her control, but the next time she saw Creed, she wouldn't let him go so easily. She trusted him, but didn't always understand his methods. He likes to be a one man team, but that concept is impossible. She realized that him abruptly leaving was probably how he always dealt with things that bothered him. You can't fight fire with fire, be calm and level headed the next time you talk to him. But right now, stay busy there are souls to liberate. She told herself.
Song knew that she had to keep going. It reminded her of something she said to Kai and Onyx awhile ago, "I will keep fighting, even if I find myself fighting by myself." That day Kai promised they wouldn't leave her fighting by herself. They are at war and time is precious, every night more and more people lose their souls to the Shadows. It was obvious that the Shadows had a plan, but they did not. Most Shadowhunters are focusing on liberating souls after the Shadows consume them. Which reminded her of what she was saying to Creed about being proactive and not just reactive.

Suddenly, her strategic mind began clicking. What if we could save souls before the Shadows consumed them? She needed to develop a game plan and the first person who could help her finalize and execute the plan is the person walking on the other path. She stood up and ran out the door. Soon she found herself back at Onyx's house. Song knocked, shortly afterwards she saw the door opening. "Song?" Onyx asked out of breath and sweaty. "Hurry up and come in." She obeyed, "What have you been doing? Running a marathon?" "No, training. So what's up? You know, I was hoping that we would cross paths again, but I had no idea it would be this soon," he said smiling. "Neither did I, but I just thought about something. The Shadows gain ground every night. We, the Shadowhunters, liberate souls by day, but that's after the damage has been done. What if we could stop or catch the Shadows before they wreak all of this havoc." Song explained. Onyx smiled, "Ah, it seems like you had a proactive vs. reactive conversation with Creed, who doesn't believe in that. Sounds to me like you want to be a Guardian or something like that." "Wait, so that's your job?" "Will be in a few days or so, that's why I had to leave. I need to go on a rigorous training regimen to prepare my body and mind for the task of the Guardian, I would have told you, but that is SSS information. See, now since you have been there and your mom was a SSS Shadowhunter, there should be no harm in telling you." Song was a little sad when he mentioned her mother, for that painful longing returned to her, "I'm glad we're on the same page now." He stepped closer to her, "Likewise, so here I am, now tell me what's your plan?"
