I opened my eyes tiredly. They were barely even open, but a figure at the other side of the room caught my eye.
Focusing more, I could instantly put a name on the figure. It was Brendon, standing at the door with his back to me.
I wanted to call for his name, but my words seemed to drown in my throat.
He opened the door, and stormed out of the room. I was devastated that he was leaving.
I start to look around. The walls of this room are bland, only decorated with a picture of a flower. There was a bright light shining on me to my right. I looked down at my body, and I was seeing a bed walled off with railings at the end. I was tucked into the rough blankets, and among more inspection, I saw that I was in an uncomfortable night gown. It was a light blue, patterned with light purple specs all over it.
There was an IV in my left arm, which was what really gave me an idea of where I was. The bracelet on my wrist helped too.
The bruises on my arms stood out to me, and I realized that if I was in scrubs, someone must have changed me, and saw all the wounds on my body. They would wonder why I had so many bruises all over my body, and they'd ask around.
The door burst open, and I was hoping that it was Brendon. But it was Talon.
He looked relieved and happy. I didn't understand why he was freaking out, and why the two of them were here. I couldn't be at the hospital for a terrible incident, so it was weird to see them.
"You're awake." He says blatantly, instantly embracing me.
I hug him back with curiosity. He doesn't let go of me for a long time, though.
"Talon," I nudge him, and my voice comes out hoarse from sleeping.
He stops hugging me, and sits on the side of the bed with me.
"Sorry, I'm just really excited about this." He tells me giddily.
"Why so excited?" I inquire.
He looks at me with a softer face, looking me up and down. "You don't know, of course."
"Know what?" I started to become very curious. I needed to know what was going on.
"Your appendix burst."
My eyes almost popped out of my head.
"What?!" I cry. "How... How am I not dead?"
"They caught it at the very last second. If you had gotten to the hospital any later than you did, you probably wouldn't be alive right now."
"Oh my god," I gasped, clutching my chest. "I... I almost died. I didn't even know it."
"Was something ever off? Like, were you experiencing any of the symptoms of appendicitis?"
Everything clicked for me. I had been throwing up on a daily basis. How had I not realized what was going on?
"Yes... Oh my goodness I puked practically every day for extreme amounts of time. I thought I was fine so I never bothered, but it makes so much more sense now."
"Why didn't you tell anyone? You could have died!"
"I didn't realized that what was happening could link to something so severe... I feel terrible."
"Well, the main thing is that you're okay."
"Oh my God, my mom. She must be so worried holy shit!" I begin to panic.
"Don't worry, it's all okay. She's at home right now. Her coworkers really wanted her to go home to get some rest, and so did Charlie. She asked me to take care of you if you woke up during the middle of the night."
