Security Detail (Neptune x Writer)

The Improvement (2 months later)

     It was at around 2:30 in the day that I got a call on my walkie-talkie. The voice on the other end was my boss, IF. Some called her Iffy, but I wanted to be a respectful man, so I always refer to her as IF.

-"Riley, come in, this is IF."

-"Yes sir! what is it?"

-"I need you in my office to talk about a new assignment I have for you."

-"Right away sir!"

     If my boss is giving me a new assignment herself, it's gotta be important. I arrive at her office and knock on the door.

-"Sir, you wanted to talk to me?"

-"There he is, come in Riley."

     I walk inside and close the door behind me. It was then that I realized that Neptune herself was there too! I went down on 1 knee respectfully.

-"Well he seems ready!"

-"I'm paid to follow orders sir."

-"Stand up!" IF shouted.

     I stood without saying a word.

-"Alright Riley, as you know, a lot of our troops have quit recently and our military strength is dropping. This Basilicom is under a bigger threat of getting attacked than usual."

-"It makes me worry." Neptune said sadly

-"I'm worried that if an attack does happen, we won't have enough troops safeguarding Neptune. That's why I'm putting you as a door guard outside Neptune's room."

     I was surprised. Surely there were better soldiers than me in Planeptune's military. So why me?

-"Sir, with all due respect, I do not understand the logic of this decision. Surely there are more experienced and better trained soldiers than me in the military! So why me?"

-"I thought you might say that. Well, think of this as a promotion! You get paid more per hour you guard her room. Throughout the last 2 months I've observed your work and I was going to promote you  tomorrow anyway. And then Neptune came to me and said she was worried. There's your reason. Your new shift starts tomorrow. Dismissed!"

-"Thank you sir, I'll do my best."

     Just as I'm about to leave, Neptune comes over to me and whispers something in my ear.

-"By the way, you don't have to be so formal to me. Just act like you would to a friend!"

     She walked out of the room after that. There was no way I'd be able to do that! She's the CEO and CPU of Planeptune as a whole! Could I really make the switch? Whatever happens next is a mystery to me.
