Interview with @will24951

What is your favorite book you have written?

'Le Gai Paris'

Why do you write?

I write because I enjoy it, creating characters and story lines. When writing it so great to experiment by putting characters in different situations and then just improvising what might happen, it's very similar to acting. That's why I believe books are so easily converted to films.

What was the first story you ever wrote and when did you write it? (not just on wattpad)

Well when I was about 4-5 I made this cute picture book, which was about somebody who went on a boat, there wasn't much writing but it was probably the first book/story I've written and it had pictures too, I'm pretty proud of my 4 year old self.

Aww that's cute. So where do your stories come from/what is your inspiration(s)?

Well many things, movies, people, music. But they don't make stories they just impart there essence onto a story. Making a story is hard, but so rewarding. But, inspiration can come from many things, maybe even just a still in a movie, just a word in a song. What’s great is combining all these inspiring things to make something in itself truly inspirational.

Who controls the story when you write, you or the characters?

Well, I kind of create the scenarios and put the characters in them, and then I put myself in the characters shoes and pretend to be them and see what they would say, how they would move what they would feel and think, and then I place that on the page. So, as I said before i really do think there is a strong correlation between writing and acting they really work (for me) hand in hand.

Is writing just a hobby or would you like to become a full time author?

I'd say at the moment it's just a hobby, I don't think I'm good enough to be a full time author

I'm sure you could be one if you really wanted to. :) Which idea comes to you first, the plot or the characters?

I wouldn't say any of them come to me first, really what first draws me in, is a theme, i build my books upon themes and then everything else falls in to place, the characters and the plot all have to follow the theme and so really the book is ruled by its theme.

How often do you read and what type of books?

Quite regularly, I'm quite into my historical fiction at the moment I'm reading quite a meaty novel called 'Wolf hall' which is written by Hilary Mantel, and won the man Booker prize. It's all about Thomas Cromwell, Henry VIII's chief minister, and his rise to power. I'm also in to the harry potter and Alex Ryder, franchises as well.

So who is your favorite published author? Why? Who is your favorite wattpad author? Why?

My favorite published author has to be Ian McEwan, if you've read any of his books you'll know why. He's just a phenomenal writer, he brought us Atonement and Enduring love, two of the best novels I have ever read. The style of his writing is so sophisticated and it draws you in with every cleverly phrased line.

Wattpad author, I don't really know, I haven't found anybody I really love the writing of, I'd say that WandoWande is a great author, his descriptions are beautiful and the metaphors he uses are harsh but really work. I also like Lambda's style however, I'm less keen on the subject matter, but I believe he crafts his sentences really well.

When you get a new idea do you plan it all out or just start writing?

Well usually, I just start writing and then plan after I've written a few chapters, after you've written a few chapters I usually find that the story then writes itself you just need a good foundation, for my newer books I've written by this principal, however, with 'The Woods' I already had quite a clear plan, but after writing the first chapter my plan changed completely, so I think it's important not to plan before or make a plan that is too ridged and has no give. A plan should just be a skeleton in my opinion.
