Interview with @gloriouskau
What is your favorite book you have written?
The current book which I'm writing and am all hyped about is Daybreak :)
Cool! Let's get started! So what was the first story you ever wrote and when did you write it? (Tell me a bit about he story, not just the name please :) )
Yeah, so the first story I ever wrote was The Coulthard Diaries. I wrote it when I first joined Wattpad in September, 2012. I had already written about a couple of chapters and I was basically looking for a site to post my work, and bam! Up came Wattpad to my rescue :D
So anyway, the story is about a Scottish girl, April Coulthard, who wants to pursue professional football someday. Her mother had died when she was five years old and her father died of cancer when she was fifteen, thus, leaving her with her little brother, Adrian or Ad. The story follows her path to playing football for Scotland and the hardships faced by her.
So, I was pretty hyped about this story, but then after writing three chapters, I lost track of it. However, the story is by no way over. I'll continue it in a short time because the plot is very dear to me. Football has been a big part of my life and I want to finish this story.
Why do you write?
I write because I like to. It is just like playing a video game because you like to do it. Real life is way mundane, at least for introverts like me. That is why I like to entertain myself with my fictional characters. It gives me purpose. It gives me a sense of joy.
And of course, the secondary reason is to get published. I'd love to be a published author some day, it is a dream, yes.
Where do your stories come from/what is your inspiration(s)?
My friends and family, I guess. I take small cues fro them and process them into something flashy and interesting. But of course, this consists of a small part only. I don't really look anywhere particular for inspiration. Sometimes, I'll feel stuck and I'll go outside or may be just lie and think about all kinds of things happening and I get inspiration. But most of the time, writing itself inspires me.
When you write who controls the story, you or the characters?
Partly by me and partly by my characters. Obviously it would be imprudent if a character does something that is not expected of him or her. I have to look at the whole incident from the character's perspective and then decide what would happen next. So, in a way the character influences my decision. But then sometimes, I disregard his or her ideals and make him or her do something totally different. That's when I decide over the character.
Where and when do you write best?
The best place for me to write is somewhere quiet. The only place which fulfills this condition is my room, so that's where I write most of the time. I have tried writing during school but found that it just doesn't work out. A solitary spot under a tree or some natural spot is a great spot to write for me, but the problem is that a place like that doesn't exist close to my house.
As to the time, I find my most fruitful hours to be after everybody in my house has gone to bed. I don't know why, but all the ideas seem to come to my head at that time and that time only. Sometimes, if I manage to get up early before everybody, I might write at that time.
When you write do you listen to music? If so what type and does it affect your writing?
Yes. Music is a big part of my life and my writing too. When I'm writing, I like to listen to something soft and slow, not too loud, because it might disrupt my flow. Piano music is one of my favorites for writing but sometimes, I listen to emotional songs too. Like, I'm currently hooked to Let Her Go by Passenger and The Fault In Our Stars by Troye Sivan. They contain spoken words but they are not too disturbing.
