Interview with @haihoran

What is your favorite book you have written?

Know

What was the very first story you ever wrote and what was it about? (not just on wattpad)

Hahaha wow my very first story? I guess if you count a story I wrote when I was in elementary school, it was about a boy who finds an alien in his room or something like that. It was so long ago but I remember being really proud of it.

Haha sounds interesting :) Why do you write?

The simple answer (also written in my bio) is because reality doesn't cut it for me. Basically, writing is my outlet for escaping reality like because as bad as it sounds, I'd rather live in my books than my life.

Totally understandable!  Where do your stories come from/ what is your inspiration?

I generally write One Direction fan fictions and the ideas come from a variety of places. Sometimes I'll watch a really quirky but cute scene from a movie and it transfers into my writing. Sometimes I'll just sit in class and daydream about what I wish could happen to me and I bring it to life in a story.

When you write, who controls the story, you or the characters?

I like to think that I do, haha. But I guess in certain cases, the characters do, too.

Which idea comes to you first, the plot or the characters?

The plot usually comes to me first. The characters are then the ones carrying out the plot.

Is writing just a hobby or would you like to become a full-time author?

It's just a hobby. I've thought about making a profession out of it before but then I wouldn't be writing on my own time. I would have deadlines and requirements and all of that which is never fun. :/

How much do you read and what type of books?

It depends on how busy I am and what kind of reading mood I'm in, lol. I think in general, I finish one book every few months and I read contemporary or teen fiction and the occasional interesting non-fiction.

Who is your favorite published author? Why? Who is your favorite Wattpad author? Why?

My favorite published author is probably David Levithan or John Green. I love their writing styles, it's so fluid and engaging. I find anything they write hard to put down.

I don't have a favorite published wattpad author...yet. :)

Do you plan out your stories or just get an idea and start writing?

I normally plan them out. Strong plots and stories and development of characters need at least some sort of an outline. I used to get an idea and just free write but it made for really crappy stories, or at least, not very strong plotlines.

Were you taught how to write stories or did you teach yourself?

I taught myself :) I used to read a lot, I think like three books a month, so I was exposed to a ton of good writing styles and techniques.

When you get stuck, how do you re-inspire yourself?

Writer's block is the absolute worst. I'll even lose sleep over it, just because I get really into my work sometimes. I always get through it one way or another, but I don't have a specific method or anything. I just step back from my writing for a bit, do other things, and then come back and brainstorm for new ideas. It's worked every time so far.

Are you a creative or logical person?

Literally right in between both.

Do you listen to music as you write? If so what type and does it affect your writing?

I'm actually listening to music as I write right now! It's this instrumental artist named Tycho. All his songs are suuuuper chill and ambient and perfect as background music to write or even just to study. I highly recommend it, especially his album called Dive. I can't listen to music with singing when I write---too distracting.

When and where do you write best?

For some reason, I always get the strongest urges to write (and the best ideas) late, late at night, like at ungodly hours. It's the main reason I'm sleep deprived. To answer where: in my room, on my bed or desk.

Sleep deprivation is the curse of a writer...  Okay, so that is all the questions I have for you, could I speak with a character from 'Know'?

First question: What is your name?

I'm Jules, nice to meet you.

Hey, Jules! Is that short for anything?

Yes it is, but it's long and weird and nobody knows what it is except close family members... and Harry.

Oh! Now I really want to know what it is!  What was your most embarrassing moment?

My most embarrassing moment, hmm. It's hard to choose since I have so many! I'm not the most socially adept person. I guess I'll go with when I first met Harry and thought his name was 'Hairy.' I even called him that for a moment until I realized what he said. It was so awkward.

Haha so what are your dreams/ambitions?

I'm currently an intern at a design agency in London and my ultimate goal is to become a graphic designer, maybe even become the chief!

Whoa! Cool! Who are three people you could not live without?

Three? Uh-oh I'm gonna cheat on this question and say my mom, my dad, my best friend Effy and Harry.

*gasp!* that is.. one... two... three... four! Haha naw Who or what has made you who you are today?

I'd have to say it's largely my brother, Gellan. He passed away a few years ago but he was my closest friend growing up. He's always been my biggest influence; he showed me awesome music and told me to never give up on my dreams.

Aww sounds like a sweet guy. Did you guys get into a lot of mischief? What was the worst trouble you ever got into together?

We'd been into plenty of mischief together that were mostly his fault, haha. He once buried me in the sand at the beach and forgot where he left me. I was only four years old!

So, what is your favorite pass time?

My favorite pass time would be playing around on photoshop and making random designs and stuff. I'm pretty grateful that I get to make my pass time into a career. :)

What is your favorite song as of the moment?

Your Song by Kate Walsh. So calming and sweet.

Do you have any item which holds special sentimental value to you? If so what is it and why?

Yes, it's a Frank Sinatra record that Harry gave me. It's important to me in so many ways. I don't want to give away the ending of the novel but it has to do with my brother.

What is your greatest loathing reserved for?

It's hard to say. I'm not really a loathful person! I guess I'd say anyone who takes advantage of the innocent or helpless, like animals or senior citizens

What is your favorite quote?

"The darkest night is before the brightest day." Just a simple reminder to stay positive, because it gets better. It always does.

Oh, I like that!  What is your favorite snack?

I like pita chips with chunky guacamole.

Okay! That is all the questions I have for you! Thank you so much for your time! I'll post it as soon as I can! Thanks again! God bless!

Thanks so much! :)
